    Introduction

A normal man, one of the survivors after man’s unthinkable act. No, there are no zombies, no mutants, just an everyday man trying to survive, keeping a journal along the way.

I would like to thank my wife, Phyllis. Without her hard and diligent work, this book would not have been possible. Thank you Phyllis.

I don’t know why I survived. It’s been a week since, I think, there was a nuclear war. So far, I have found no other living soul. I decided to keep this journal so it may be used as a history of what happened, when man decided to destroy himself. Maybe if there is life on another planet, and they come to visit this planet, which we, mankind, call earth, and they find this, my journal, then they will see how dumb the inhabitants of this planet were.

Seven days ago, the sky glowed red, then intense heat, then the wind blew, like a hurricane, it seemed like it was forever, and my home collapsed in on me. When I awoke, it was dark and very cold. I have not seen the sun in a week.

My dear, dear love of 31 years is gone, crushed. My dear Cybil, how I wish I could be with you now, I miss you so. After3days, I buried you in the back yard under your favorite tree, which you planted about 15 years ago. I know you are at peace, and until I pass over to be with you, I will write this journal so you will know how I am doing.

No electric or radio stations, not even the emergency broadcast channel . Maybe I’m dead, but I don’t think so as I still have feelings of pain. Maybe this is God’s will, so I will see where it leads.

Today I went to the supermarket, nice drive, no one else on the road. The supermarket was really in bad shape, all of the walls and roof are gone and a lot of the food is in a big pile, like someone had just piled it that way. The smell from the rotting food was Unbearable, and there were lots of rats and bugs.

I gathered as many canned goods as I could. I fear the rats because some of them charged at me so I threw rocks, which seemed to keep them at bay. I think I will come back tomorrow and finish taking what I can.

I went back to the supermarket today. I noticed that the pile had been disturbed. I hope there are others. I wrote on a piece of cardboard that I’m a survivor, and would like to meet them. I will be here tomorrow at noon. I placed my sign on a pole. I don’t think you can miss it. I hope they have a watch, it is still dark but everyday there seems to be more light from about 9am until 11am .

I have decided to only write an entry when something happens.

I went to the supermarket at about 10am, and after the morning light had faded, I saw a shadowy figure. I spoke and said hi, before I could say my name, this person took off running, there was no way I was going to catch them. I pleaded for them to stop, but to no avail. I think by judging from the size of the figure, this was either a woman or child.

With the smell so bad, it made me vomit. I will not be coming back to this supermarket, but I will drive by from time to time to see if I can make contact with the stranger. May God bless them.

I have decided to leave this place in the spring. There are 5 things I need to survive; 1. A gun, 2.Food, 3.Water, 4.Gas, and 5.A bike. I know the bike sounds stupid but gasoline may not last forever.

I have also decided to burn the dead as I find them. Sadly, I found
