About this ebook
I have these awful thoughts. In the middle of the night. When I can’t get to sleep. Like a slide show. The planet. Devastated. Hardly a sign of life except for the odd building on the landscape. And the sky is a deep purple. Silver clouds drift by. And the land is black. Except for the ditches where water runs red. There are leafless trees on the horizon that look like crucifixes. And I’m the last person on the planet. Except for a mysterious dark stranger. We’re the Adam and Eve of the planet. And he’s a serial killer.

1.College Life
I’m not sure what you expect us to do, Mr. Craven.
Oshioke Smith stood in front of Frank Craven’s desk, a small desk in a small room. Against one wall were book shelves, stuffed with papers and books. Running along the opposite was a cot. Oshioke glanced at the cot and wondered what its prime purpose was - sleep or seduction. She’d heard about professors who came onto coeds, how they coerced young woman into their beds with promises of enlightenment. What would she do if the large man across the desk from her were to make a move on her? Run, scream, or… Frank Craven stood up. Oshioke’s heart quickened. He began to rifle books and papers into his valise. He looked around to make sure that he hadn’t forgotten something. Casually, almost off handedly, he responded to Oshioke.
That’s part of the challenge, Ms. Smith.
Frank Craven smiled and snapped closed his valise.
He doesn’t see me… as a woman.
Oshioke cleared her throat. From what I understood of your lecture, sir, the Greeks created heroes to help them to deal with the fears they felt about existence. A sort of warrior against angst.
Frank nodded. He picked up his valise, made his way around the desk, looking down at the small girl standing in front of him. He noticed that the top two buttons of her blouse were undone.
She thinks I’m going to seduce her! He looked away.
It annoyed Oshioke that Professor Craven did not look at her when she was talking to him.
