      Funny little book about professionally done cakes that have gone wrong. From misquoted and/or misspelled words to ones that are just plain wrong. Possessed looking animals, "sexy" cakes gone wrong and lets not forget the demented Santas. Just fun way to pass the time and look at what can and will go wrong.

      I've been blogging for 10 years now and this was one of the first blogs I remember reading just for belly laughs. I'm so glad she had this published. I read this entire book in the isle at Barnes and Noble while trying not to wet my person or disturbing other patrons by laughing. I then bought it and laughed about it all the way home. My first job was at a bakery/chocolatier so this brought back some good memories. nothing this hilarious, but I can almost smell the icing. If anything, this book will make you thankful for your smarticles.

      I have no idea why pictures of poorly decorated cakes make me laugh, but I am grateful that they do.

      Love the CakeWrecks blog, and have wanted to see how it translated into a book, so when the chance to borrow it came up, I jumped! I snuggled into my chair, with a hot toddy in hand, and chuckled through the book last evening. While I had seen many of these on the blog, there still were a fair number I'd missed, and some that were definitely worth the repeat. The editor in me loved the frosting equivalent of typos. Some of the others were really funny, too, though I don't know that if it was a cake I had ordered for a minor life event, say, a wedding, that I would see the humor at the moment -- though I certainly would see it afterward! My favorite personal cakewreck story is sadly available only in memory pictures-- a cake for a Hanukkah party, which when it arrived, had the menorah on top of the Christmas tree, and dredels hanging from the branches of the tree. Wish I did have a picture.

      Cake Wrecks the blog is one of the funniest on the web. Not just because of the absolutely hilarious ways "professional" cake decorators can get it wrong, but because of Jen's funny commentaries to go along with it. And this book captures all of that in a portable format to die laughing of. Although the book captures some of the best of the blog (the jockey riders for instance) it has enough new content and commentary to keep you rolling in the aisles for hours on end.If you've never read the blog (why the heck not???) you can still pick up the book and enjoy it just as much as fans of the blog. A must have for those times when you're feeling down

      I seem to find this book to be funnier than most people perceive it to be. My mom was an amazing cake decorator so I've always taken an interest in professional cakes. I have been the victim of a mishap and have seen a few in the stores. I couldn't stop laughing when I was reading this book. I think this would be a wonderful gift for mother-in-laws, mothers, grandmothers, and anyone who has ever made you a cake. The funniest mistakes though come from professional cake decorators misunderstanding what is supposed to go on the cake.

      I was really expecting this book to be funnier than it actually was. Although I'm not a devout follower of the blog, I have spent an hour or two of my life paging through it and laughing at some of the cakes there. For some reason, however, the blog didn't transfer over well into book form. I think that part of it is because the blog is dynamic; some of the reasons why I laughed at the blog entries is because of the comments left by others. That's missing in the book. I'd recommend skipping this one unless you're a diehard fan - and even then, I wouldn't really recommend the book.

      This book is hilarious and just as good as the blog. It's also an excellent coffee-table book. It's struck up a fair amount of conversations for me at home and at work (I'm a librarian, so yay for the book that's its own attention-grabber). And it gives special attention to the Darth Vader baby cake, so you can't go wrong there! You'll also find out some of the history behind the blog, people who've trolled the site, and the bakers who sometimes contribute their own work.

      I found Cake Wrecks to be only slightly more than mildly amusing. I'm a big fan of the books by James Lileks in this same vein, including both "The Gallery of Regrettable Foods" and "Gastroanomalies". Though Yates' book attempts to capture the same sort of sarcastic, "what were they thinking" humor, I found that it fell a bit short. I do enjoy following the Cake Wrecks blog, though. In the end, though I enjoyed Cake Wrecks, the hardback book seemed a bit pricey for what you get. Stick with the online blog and watch for this one in trade paperback (or check it out from your library, if they have it).

      I love the CakeWrecks blog, and recommended my brother buy the book for our mom for Christmas. My gain, as I was stranded at my parents' for an afternoon alone, and picked this up.While there are a few blog favorites in the book (more to establish the tone), there are tons of new wrecks, along with Jen's snarky commentary. This is a great, fun book to keep around for guests (plus, you'll get many a laugh yourself). And I dare you not to turn into a CakeWreck Investigator yourself!Recommended.

      I can't do this book justice by trying to summarize it with words. If you love the Cake Wrecks blog, you'll love this book - which contains many favorites from the web, along with a lot of new material. I mean, it just wouldn't be a Cake Wrecks book without mohawked carrot jockeys and cakes inscribed with 'It A Girl' and 'I Want Sprinkles.' Jen's commentary is spot on, as always. I loved when she mentioned that she loved the British show "Are You being Served?", which probably explains why my sense of humor matches hers so well.Love the blog, buy the book. Love baking? Buy the book. Or as in my case, buy the book for myself, and another to give as a Christmas present. Also works as a "Berfday" gift.

      When I first discovered the Cake Wrecks blog, I spent a few hours reading the archives and giggling at Jen's wonderful word play. This book did not disappoint. There was plenty of new material and Jen's classic tongue-in-cheek commentary. It takes a lot to get me to laugh out loud (seriously). This book gave me many "LOL" moments.

      I read the holiday one first but this one was just as hilarious if not better! So many cake disasters that I didn't even have a favorite one. Hmmmm... maybe the TRex falling over was the one that made me LOL. I am enjoying seeing cake wrecks because I know if I ever decorated a cake it would turn up in this book or her blog. :)

      What some of these cake decorators lack in penmanship, they make up for in spelling errors. And they seem to think that anything can be fixed by adding more icing. Gobs of icing. Author and collector of wrecked cake pictures, Jen Yates adds her comments with somewhat sarcastic and often quizzical captions. There are definitely humorous cakes in this collection, some intentional and some not, and this book may have you switching to ice cream for dessert. But it’s all in good, or maybe gooey, fun.

      CAKE WRECKS: When Professional Cakes Go Hilariously Wrong, by Jen Yates, grew out of her website CakeWrecks.com. The website won the 2009 Bloggies awards for Best writing on a Blog, Best New Blog, and Best Food Blog. People from all over the world send Yates pictures of cakes with unfortunate errors, disgustingly oily frostings, or just plain weird messes, etc., to which Yates adds her snarky comments. Chapters have titles such as “Literal LOLs”, “Beyond Bizarre”, “Wedding Wrecks”, and “Holiday Horrors”.
      When my daughter and I sat down to read this together, we knew it would be funny, but we had no idea that we would end up with our faces hurting from laughing so much!
      WARNING! Do not read this book in a public place unless you don’t mind being stared at because of your hysterical laughing!

      This book is based on Yates’s hilarious blog of the same name. If you are not familiar with the blog, basically Yates collects and comments on professional cakes that have gone disastrously wrong – in a humorous way. This collection includes picture evidence of misspellings, odd requests, bad decorating choices, etc. As mentioned, Yates adds her own snarky comments as captions to the photos, sometimes just making a funny aside or sometimes weaving together a story about the cake(s) in question. Some of the material in the book is the same or similar to the blog, but some is new. This book is great light read; I didn’t intend to, but I finished in just about one sitting (I was trying to extend it out so I had a bit of “dessert” reading each night, but it was too delicious to stop). Some parts were so funny that I literally laughed out loud and/or had to share those pages with others. Overall, this book was a lot of fun to read, especially if you want a break from heavier reading material.
