To my son Elias, for always wanting one more story about Feyron and for listening patiently and asking good questions as I read him each story one by one.

Preface
Time moves on even in Feyron and the days you have heard about in the stories of the Awakening are past. Not long past, mind you, only a few generations away, but far enough back that most who lived those tales have moved on. So too with the little ones which sat at the Storyteller's feet. They have grown and moved on to their second lives. And though the Storyteller may seem timeless, she no longer travels the lands of Feyron or into the Worlds Beyond to tell her tales. Now the children come to her to hear the lore of the past and gather in her gardens with the promise of a grand tale and fine treats.
This is a different sort of writing than the stories of history from the ages of Feyron. This is a collection of fireside tales; the sorts of tales meant to be read to excited children as they try to be still and listen. Some stories are more fanciful than others, and some are more philosophical. This is not a book that must be read cover to cover, but one that can be sampled and enjoyed when you want to learn just a little bit more about the Realm of Feyron. I hope you enjoy the tales.

*****
I would like to note to the readers that the archaic spellings of words in the tales from Feyron are purposeful. Language is a living, breathing thing, just like myths, legends, and lore; and I think it is good to remember sometimes, that the spellings we see today in modern American English have much deeper roots. Take time to pause and open your favorite search engine and study a bit of the past as you read the story.

Prologue
The Storyteller sat in her rocking chair on the back porch of the little stone cottage, watching the red sand just barely contained by the dividing wall as it swirled on the winds in its ever eager search to cover more. Remembering her time at the Archives within the Expanding Desert with fondness, she smiled at recollections of her adventuresome youth. As the evening
