CHAPTER ONE

Lenora Winifred Winslow was not a glass half full type of person. Calling her a pessimist was too weak of a word; she was more of a knock the glass over into the lap of the nearest body kind. She enjoyed being sarcastic, reveled in negativity, and if misery loved company, in her case, it probably kidnapped the company.
She was a troublemaker on her best days, but by the middle of November, when the first of the Christmas songs started playing on the radio and stores dressed up their display windows in glittery holiday cheer, Lenora became a nightmare.
Her co-workers and neighbors found that out the hard way after she accidentally on purpose threw out the box filled with all the baubles for decorating the tree twice in one week. Then promptly followed it up by canceling the office Holiday party at a local restaurant and scheduling in January which led her to be notoriously labeled as Scrooge McGrinch. If someone even dared mention the words 'Secret Santa' to her, she made it her personal mission to make an example out of them, as a warning to anyone else who was fool enough to try to extend any Christmas cheer her way.
Suffice to say, she didn't have many friends, but the ones she did have, thoroughly enjoyed her antics. Which was fine with her. In fact she preferred it like that. Her mother on the other hand was not amused.
Lenny-
I hate when you call me that.
Lenora mumbled from the leather couch she laid stretched out on, flipping through a magazine she'd acquired in a less than neighborly fashion.
Fine! Lenora, I hope you're planning on returning that magazine back to Terrence. It's a horrible habit to have, you know? Taking other people's mail without their permission.
