Authors
Welcome!
Hello!
Thank you for purchasing this eBook and welcome to your new " Travel eGuide: Southern Thailand " which, we hope, will help you discover a part of this beautiful country, an Asian pearl with beautiful beaches, breathtaking landscapes, friendly people, delicious cuisine and wild nature. A mixture of culture, nature and history that we enjoyed and would like to share with you through an unforgettable journey.
A route of over 4,300 kilometers, where the sea, nature, gastronomy and people are at the heart of the trip: discovery of national parks, hiking, beautiful beaches, landscapes and natural attractions! This guide will not only allow you to dream, but actually transform your journey and help you plan your itinerary according to your interests and preferences!
This e-guide offers a different approach to travel, between travel blog
and classic guide. You can imagine that we do not have a team like the Lonely Planet , so you will not find in this e-book full of addresses of accommodation or restaurants. We share with you our travels, our experiences. We hope that this will help you discover new destinations and will make you want to visit them.
If you feel like discovering other regions, do not hesitate to see our website blog-travel.voyage with articles about our wanderings around the world.
If you prefer discover some of our travels in video, see our YouTube channel as for example this video:

This eGuide
works almost like a website, and does not need to be used along with an Internet connection (unless you want to access "OpenStreetMap" plans and other hyperlinks that we provide throughout the book, in real time).
Depending on the capabilities of your eBook reader, you can enjoy zoom features on photos. You can also click on the hypertext links (or hyperlinks) underlined throughout the eGuide. We tried our best to make your reading experience as enjoyable as possible, despite the wide technology gaps between various reading systems.
Be sure that we will propose to you more interactive versions, as the formats and eBook readers should be standardized in the future!
Well, enough chatting. Let's go!
Sincerely,

Practical tips for Southern Thailand
Welcome to your new " Travel eGuide: South of Thailand " which, we hope, will help you discover a part of this beautiful region, between the Gulf of Thailand, Myanmar and the Andaman Sea. A narrow strip of land, the Isthmus of Kra that connects the Malay Peninsula to continental Asia. Nature is really beautiful in this region!
If you are an European citizen, a visa is not required if your stay is less than 30 days.
BUDGET Tips:
Plane tickets
Depending on your country of origin, the tips can be different to have cheaper flight tickets.
Here are some advice which may apply, no matter where you are coming from.
Tips:
Buy your tickets in advance (minimum of 3 or even 6 months before) to get the best rates so you can choose the dates of your vacation. Look for promotions from different airlines.
Do not buy your tickets at once, but test
the market first. Look for the airline companies that arrive in Bangkok - see here - and for Phuket here.
Buy your tickets towards one of these cities and then prepare your route or itinerary according to it.
Pay attention because the tickets prices may vary on every hour and without any logic. Consequently, record in a file on your computer the prices you have found for several days before making your decision. This way, you can compare and know immediately when you will have an opportunity not to be missed. You can save more than 300 €/ticket.
If possible, avoid traveling at holiday times (Christmas, New Year, etc.) to get the cheapest price for your airline tickets. If you however wish to go during these periods, schedule your departure a few days before those events.
Depending on your starting point, try the following airlines to have more chances to get good prices: Finnair, Qatar airways, Emirates, Lufthansa, Air France, Thai airways. We chose this time the Emirates and had a very good price.
The best time to visit Thailand is the dry season from September to March for the South. The temperature of the sea water is between 25° C and 30° C all year round.
Travelling in Thailand
Tips :
Acar rental is the most suitable way of getting around and discovering Thailand.
Pay attention: it is necessary to guarantee the car rental with a credit card. Make your reservation on the Internet because the price difference is big, even doubles, if you take the vehicle at the airport without preliminary reservation.
Accommodation
You have plenty of choices in terms of accommodation. Everything depends on your budget.
Tips:
For families travelling with children the cheapest variant remains the guesthouses
. There are rooms from 5 euros / night.
If you want more comfort, you need a budget of minimum 800 baht (20 euros) / night / double room. In hotels there are family rooms if you are travelling with children.
Food & Restaurants
The Thai cuisine is very varied and tasty. If you are not familiar with it, you will surely love it.
There are a few restaurant chains that are truly worth. The first one I recommend is "Hot pot that you find in shopping malls. It is a very healthy fast food restaurant: the meal takes place around the
pot" - a pan with chicken broth in which you can dive at your convenience any kind of vegetable or meat, mushrooms, soy, etc. There are also delightful dim sum and excellent red pork. The duck is also delicious! Another competing channel with the same kind of food is MK restaurants.
MK restaurants
If you like coffee, you will find the famous Starbucks (not so often!), but you can try some local coffee chains. I recommend the best one that we adopted after several tries:
- Amazon café: very nicely decorated in teak wood with colorful parrots, a lovely terrace and tables with dried flowers. You can drink coffee and hot teas, cold and shakes and you often receive a free cup of tea. These cafés are next to the PTT gas stations!
A small coffee in the jungle
of Amazon café
Another possibility of restoration, which is by far the most unusual and the least expensive, is constituted by the markets. Whether day or night markets, you will always find small diners offering at unbeatable prices tasty local dishes, soups and desserts. You can choose either directly in the dishes, showing what you want, or by ordering on the menus sometimes - the dishes are then quickly prepared.

Advice:
Acar rental is the most suitable means of transport if you want to visit Thailand freely. There are several companies that rent cars at the airport.
We chose Sixt and paid 14.000 bahts for 2 weeks (350 euros). Drive traffic, especially in Bangkok is quite sporty and indicators do not always arrive at the right time... or do not exist at all. This is why I advise you to have a GPS or rent one with the car because it is not a large expense as compared with the services that this little very useful device will bring you. If you have a smartphone, then you can turn it easily into a GPS, as shown below.
To rent a car you must have on your bank account in addition to the rental amount, the equivalent of minimum 20,000 bahts (approx. 500 euros) because this amount will be blocked until the return of the car.
To travel safely with your mobile, having the Internet at an acceptable price to help you out, I advise you to buy when you arrive at the airport of Bangkok, just near the rental counters car, a special sim card for tourists Happy traveler sim
at the Dtac counter. We bought one and paid 549 bahts (11 euros) with 3 gigabytes of Internet included and 85 bahts credit for communications. It was enough to travel safely with Google Maps that is good for real-time navigation, using the GPS feature of your mobile phone.
