About this ebook
I don’t know how stories are supposed to end. We are in the midst of our lives, when life seems to drift on without us, fading away into the future. Nothing ends. Things dissolve into a new story, someone else’s story. What happened to Mackenzie Philips and his crazy death lock with God? Was Tom O’Malley able to nurture his tortured soul? And what about Frank and Monique? And Greg Tower? And the widow Henderson? And the killer watching from the shadows on the fringe of these stories? All these tales tightly intertwined for a brief spell only to loosen and unravel. Into what? God, I wish they all could have found some peace.

The Harry Loom Story
1. Harry Loom
And so I have decided, in my position as the accountant of these events, to take it upon myself to cook the books. Make things come out right. Maybe things turned out this way. May they didn’t. I’m not sure of anything. But I kept the best to the last. Charlie would have liked it that way.
2.The Funeral
Harry stood near the window. Butler’s Funeral Home. Near his elbow a large coffee thermos was set on a table. Beside the thermos paper cups were stacked and near them a silver bowl filled with small plastic creams. Pale yellow ceiling tiles reflected off the glossy hardwood floor. In the middle of the room there was a large oak table filled with plates. On the plates were small triangular sandwiches, cookies, pastries. People walked backed and forth across the room. Walking as silently as they could. Snatching at the tasty morsels on the table. Occasionally someone would stop, look at Harry for several moments like he was a piece of art in a gallery, than move on. At the other end of the room from Harry, the coffin rested. Half of the top was raised. It reminded Harry of a circus act where a young woman was placed in just such a box. A magician, dressed like Count Dracula, would take out a long saw and cut the young woman in two. The young woman always screamed. Harry stared across the room at his mother’s coffin. Harry’s mother wasn’t screaming. When no one was looking she turned in her coffin, smiled at Harry, and waved.
‘Food is great, Harry,’ Charlie said.
Harry took his eyes off his mother’s coffin and looked at Charlie. Wasn’t Charlie supposed to be dead? Charlie had several small sandwiches in his hand.
‘You should try some of the salmon sandwiches, Harry.’
Aren’t you dead, Charlie? I mean there was the car accident. I didn’t dream that, did I?
‘You didn’t dream it, Harry. I’m dead. That car practically took my head off. What a mess, eh? But I couldn’t leave this blue marble without saying goodbye to your mom. She was a great
