About this ebook

Arthur Morrison (1863-1945) was an English writer and journalist known for his realistic novels and stories about working-class life in London's East End, and for his detective stories, one series of which featured the adventures of detective Martin Hewitt. Morrison’s best known work of fiction is probably his novel "A Child of the Jago" (1896, included here), but fans of detective fiction will recognize him from his mystery short stories, some of which were featured in the Rivals of Sherlock Holmes series. Arthur Morrison

Arthur Morrison (1863–1945) was an English novelist and journalist best known for his depictions of the British working class in the slums of London’s East End. After working his way up from clerk to contributor, his first serious journalism appeared in the Globe. Hewitt’s popular detective stories featuring private investigator Martin Hewitt are considered the most successful of the numerous rivals to Arthur Conan Doyle’s tales of Sherlock Holmes.
