About this ebook

A Jag with out-of-state plates is the last car Scott DeLaney expected to find when answering a tow call as a favor to his drunken godson. But, the tall man in the fedora seems like a nice reward until Scott finds out the stranger's destination. Yes, he'd take care of the brooding man, but he has a selfish reason for it.

Finding himself in a ditch after dodging a deer is the least of Patrick Samuels's problems when his rescuer arrives, wearing a tuxedo and driving a hot pink flatbed. Perhaps his older brother’s scheme will benefit Patrick after all.

Who knew that a New Year’s kiss is far more efficient than any boardroom strategy to seal a deal?

Lila Leigh Hunter

Lila Leigh Hunter lives in the Lone Star State and considers herself lucky for the love and support of her husband and four kids, even when they think she doesn’t do anything around the house. Lila’s number one fan is her mother, who listens to all her crazy ideas and pretends to agree with her. Lila Leigh is an architectural designer by trade and a writer by heart. Her love for writing is only surpassed by her devotion to reading. When outside of her cave, she likes to observe men and try to guess their stories. Sometimes she wishes the voices in her head were real; going out with the boys in her books sounds like a plan made in heaven.

    Chapter One

As the room started to fill, Scott took a moment to lean by the patio doors and observe his family and friends. A new year was about to begin, and with it would come many changes for those he loved. He smiled. The right moment for him to step down as CEO of the Sugar Plum Co-op had arrived, after a bittersweet negotiation, but in the end, it was worth it. Everyone around him deserved to take part in tonight’s celebration. On paper, the new investment firm seemed like an excellent fit. Now he’d need to wait and see. He would still be a minority stockholder, after all.

The hundreds of snowflakes dangling from the ceiling shimmered under the streams of white Christmas lights meticulously placed around the room. The winery’s atrium let the moonlight come in, adding to the night’s delight. Every azure and white decoration mixed with the silver candelabras added to the festive New Year’s setting. After grabbing a champagne flute from a passing server, Scott silently toasted before bringing the cold liquid to his lips. A shiver ran through his body, and he closed his eyes.

Once upon a time I’d wished to be the one putting that smile on your face, Alissa, Scott’s ex-wife said.

You did for many years, my love, Scott responded after opening his eyes. They had loved each other fiercely when they first met and got married. His small family was everything he’d ever wanted until life and responsibilities derailed their dreams.

I know. I know, she agreed.

Scott offered her his arm, and she accepted it. He patted her hand with his free one and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. A camera flash made him look up, and his smile brightened.

Quick, Evan, take our picture, their daughter, Larissa, ordered her boyfriend before standing by Scott’s left side.

He pulled her closer and kissed her just like he had her mother. They smiled for the camera. Life was picture-perfect indeed.
