At a young age, the man whose name would become synonymous with basketball learned to hold his head high and overcome adversity.

    High School Years

As a young boy growing up in 1970’s Wilmington, North Carolina, Michael Jeffery Jordan often found himself fighting to prove himself. His older brothers, all jocks, grew into strapping athletes and showed an affinity for manly hobbies, such as fixing cars or lifting weights. As a middle-schooler, Jordan was suspended for fighting, resisting the bullying of his classmates. His mother quickly punished him for this outburst, but Michael Jordan’s fiery spirit would not fade as he got older. The youngest Jordan showed an early knack for baseball, racking up a 42-inning scoreless streak as a pitcher in his youth baseball league. However, his competitive spirit soon set its sights on basketball, a sport that he wouldn’t immediately be qualified for athletically.
