()
About this ebook
Written by experienced wealth manager Aquiles Larrea, the book gives readers a framework for coordinating their entire financial lives that empowers them to:
• solve their biggest financial challenges
• capture new financial opportunities
• position their wealth to build the life they truly want for themselves and their families.
Confronting the many challenges
Successful Latinos and their families share numerous financial concerns and goals today. Chief among them:
• Growing and preserving wealth to meet life’s most important goals and achieve financial freedom and independence.
• Gaining the knowledge and confidence to manage wealth effectively and maximize the positive impact it can have on family and community.
• Building successful businesses that thrive for years—and generations—to come.
• Transferring wealth to heirs to ensure that loved ones have a strong financial foundation on which to build meaningful lives.
• Protecting wealth from those who would take it unjustly.
• Using wealth to make a difference in the lives of family, friends, community and the world at large.
The comprehensive wealth management solution
Addressing these many and diverse issues requires a comprehensive approach—one that brings together a broad range of resources and expertise to coordinate all the strategies that must work together to build true, meaningful and lasting financial success.
That approach is comprehensive wealth management—a framework for making smart financial decisions that consists of three key components:
1. Investment Consulting—investing assets to achieve the growth and preservation needed to reach key financial goals.
2. Advanced Planning—solving the most important non-investment objectives, including reducing taxes, passing wealth on to heirs, safeguarding assets and having a charitable impact.
3. Relationship Management—assembling and managing a network of experts to help create and oversee a wealth management plan for financial success.
There’s no question that comprehensive wealth management stands in stark contrast to how the vast majority of Latino entrepreneurs and executives—as well as most financial professionals—make decisions about the most important aspects of their financial lives.
Armed with the information, insights and strategies outlined in Your Money and You: The Ultimate Guide to Wealth Management for Latino Entrepreneurs and Executives, successful Latinos and their families will find themselves better able than ever before to build, preserve, protect and leverage the wealth they have worked so hard to create.

INTRODUCTION: My Story
Concentracion: Aprovecha Al Maximo Cada Oportunidad.
Suena, Atrevate, Actua!–Latino motivational quotes
Entrepreneurs and senior executives of Latino descent are increasingly a driving force in the U.S. economy. The share of Latino business owners in the U.S. now stands at 22.1 percent—more than double the 10 percent rate from back in 1996. And while it’s a fact that Fortune 500 companies are still overwhelmingly run by white men, today we see high-profile Latino CEOs in a wide range of industries such as airlines, entertainment, health care and financial services. Meanwhile, their Latina peers are moving into positions of power and authority throughout corporate America.
Manhattan Borough President Gail Brewer mentioned at a Latinas Think Big Conference I attended, Latina Businesses have grown over 86 percent versus a year ago.
As a successful executive or entrepreneur, you should be proud of yourself. You have worked hard to build your wealth, overcoming difficulties and making the most of opportunities along the way in order to get to where you are today.
The impact of the choices you make today
But the fact is, there is much more to do. In the coming years, you will almost certainly face more challenges—and more opportunities. The financial decisions you make when confronted with those challenge and opportunities can play a huge role in the quality of your life, and the health of your business and career, for years to come. That means you need to keep making smart choices about protecting and enhancing the wealth you have today so that it can help you accomplish all you want in life, now and in the future. The fact is, your finances aren’t just about money. They’re also about reaching the goals and dreams you and your family hold dear.
I think you will agree that you owe it to yourself, to your family and loved ones, and to your community to make sure your wealth is positioned to have as big an impact as possible.
To make that happen, you need a comprehensive strategy for managing all aspects of your wealth—one that takes into account all the pieces of your financial life and coordinates them to work in concert. This strategy can help ensure that your wealth is perfectly aligned with your core values and most meaningful goals for you as a person, an executive, a business owner and a Latino.
This book outlines just such a strategy, called consultative wealth management. It is designed to give you—today’s successful entrepreneurs and executives—the tools you need in order to identify your goals and position your wealth to turn that vision into a reality.
I firmly believe that you will put yourself in the best possible position to make smart decisions about your wealth by using consultative wealth management. In fact, I use this approach every day at my firm to help my clients stop spending all their time at the office and start enjoying the life they want most on their own terms.
An American son of Latino immigrants
My path to becoming an entrepreneur helping people take control of their financial lives goes all the way back to my childhood experiences, and the values I learned from my family.
In just about every Latino home then, as now, you were taught from a very early age to work hard, and that no dream or goal was unattainable. It was no different where I grew up in Woodside as the youngest of three brothers. My father, who came to this country from Ecuador with a limited education, over time became a savvy Realtor and real estate investor—working six days a week for as long as I can remember in order to get there. My mother, who came from Honduras, was a cashier at a local grocery store when I was young, working until 5:00 p.m. every day before coming home to take care of her three boys. Eventually she went to work in the garment industry. There was no downtime in the Larrea household. To many of you, this routine will be instantly familiar.
Despite all that hard work, we had inconsistent financial stability and even less financial education. My mom and dad were too worried about meeting each month’s bills to be thinking about what to do with any extra money or how to invest for their long-term future. The demands of the day took precedent. It struck me early on in life that money could be a source of worry if you weren’t making enough or taking care of it in the right way.
