I call myself the ABC girl’ because I’ve survived the alphabet biggies of abuse, bulimia, and cancer.Right now I am working my way through the D’s that is recovering from the loss of my husband a few months ago.I expect to conquer the entire alphabet in my life time with the help of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.I am a somewhat average gal, not too tall, not too round, not too old or too young. I am not too outgoing, yet I am definitely not an introvert.I started to write seriously when I learned that journaling could help a person overcome sexual abuse. I thought that is for me! Eventually I started publishing the devotions that fill my journals. Some of those devotionals became the book, Heartfelt Devotionals-366 devotions for common sense living. My devotionals appear regularly at http://everydaychristian.com / and http://daily.presbycan.ca /I tend to write about what is happening in my life. Constant dieting produced the Bible Study, God, Gluttony & You, as well as several health related cookbooks. When Ron passed, I wrote a picture/story book for grieving children, called The Big Red Chair (2011).Meeting Myself-Snippets from a Binging and Bulging Mind (Word Alive Press) is the newest release. As you might expect from the title, it’s the painful, though often funny story of my recovery from abuse and bulimia. I’m honoured that both Michael Bull Roberts and Nikki Rosen read and endorsed it.You might have guessed by now that my next book will be about losing my Honey. I guess you could say that writing saved my life. Oh, I know that without Jesus and my husband Ron, (who was my ‘Jesus with skin’) I’d have sunk. But writing gives me a place to look at my life and recognize how far I’ve come.

    Introduction

    Since I love to cook,

    Love to eat

    And love Jesus even more,

It makes perfect sense to me to combine all three in a devotional!

    After all, the Bible says:

And day after day they regularly assembled in the temple with united purpose, and in their homes they broke bread [including the Lord’s Supper].

They partook of their food with gladness and simplicity and generous hearts. (Acts 2:46)

    Double Dipping

For goodness sake do not double dip! Do you see those TV chefs tasting off their spoons and then sticking those same spoons back into the food? Then those same chefs ‘arrange’ every bit of food with their hands and serve it up! EEEEWWW!!

Be careful not to cross-contaminate food. Don’t put meats and their juices near other foods in your shopping cart. Meat should be thawed on a plate placed on the bottom rack of the fridge.

Keep your cutting boards clean! Wash them in hot soapy water. Clean with a mixture of one teaspoon of bleach to three cups water.

Let’s be careful not to cross-contaminate our spiritual lives either. Christ asks us to separate ourselves from certain things for our own good. Hopefully we will obey.

There is one separation that will never happen.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38, KJV)

    Appetizers

    Dip 1

    1 c. whipped topping

1 c. sour cream OR 1 container prepared cake frosting

    Dip 2

    1 small container whipped topping.

    8 oz. cream cheese

    1 cup marshmallow cream

    Dip 3

1 envelope dried onion soup mix

2 cups sour cream or pureed cottage cheese

Choose your dip recipe. Mix ingredients together and serve with appropriate fresh fruit, cookies, vegetables and crackers.

Whatever dip recipe you choose, remember the rule; no double dipping!

    Lemon Butter Buds

    1/2 cup butter

    3 tablespoons lemon juice

    2 teaspoons grated lemon zest

Mix ingredients together. Drop by teaspoons on wax paper and freeze. Serve on vegetables, fish or baked apples.

    Picky Eaters

Are you a picky eater? Let’s do a nutritional check list to see how many of the following foods we’ve ever tried and how many we actually like to eat on a regular basis.

Barley, beans, bread, broth, butter, mint, cheese ,cucumber, figs, fish, goat, dill, honey, lamb, leeks, lentils, melon, salt, parched corn, onion, garlic, pastries, pulse, dates, raisins, venison, wheat, anise, beans, spelt, coriander, mustard, apples, almonds, curds, milk, locust, partridge, millet, olives, grapes, eggs.

All of these foods are mentioned in the Bible. What is your favourite? What is your least liked?

None of them are Jesus’ favourite.

"My food, said Jesus is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. (John 4:34, NIV)

What’s that you were saying about your most loved food?

    Appetizers

    No Bake Salmon Bites

    14 ounces canned salmon, drained

    8 ounces cream cheese

    1 tablespoon lemon juice

    1 tablespoon finely minced onion

    ½ teaspoon horseradish

Mash salmon and add the rest of the ingredients. Form into twenty balls. Chill and serve. No work for the cook today! It’s like God’s offer of salvation; nothing to do on our part except to take him up on the offer of forgiveness from sin and the promise of eternal life.

    Too Good To Be True

Everyone raves about my Cheese and Onion Pie and asks for the recipe. Then when I give it to them, they question its validity.

Are you sure, they ask? Haven’t you forgotten something?

No, I reply. Try it for yourself.

And they do. Then they tell their
