Twirlybirch Gets Propelled

About this ebook
In this, the 3rd entry of the Twirlybirch series, Beauregard Twirlybirch reads about a man-powered flight named the Gossamer Condor that happened in 1977. Borrowing from that idea, he takes one of his floating umbrellas and decides to give it a propeller. Just as he is learning to take off, hover and land his brand new flying invention, Auntie Gertrude comes across a contest for entrants to fly from Vancouver to Vancouver Island, a distance of nearly 20 kilometres, using only man-powered flight. Quicker than you can say 'Zelda the Zebra's in the zinc-slinging business', Beauregard is entered in the contest.
With only a few days to train for the contest, will Beauregard be fit enough to fly his Pedal-Powered Umbrella farther than he has ever flown before? What happens if he runs out of energy and ditches into the salt chuck? How will our tiny, unlikely hero do against older, stronger, more experienced competitors? Has our petite floating umbrella pilot finally bit off more than he can chew? This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen!

I live in a little hobbit hole at the bottom of a steep hill. It would be the perfect place to float down if I had a large enough umbrella. If I floated too far I'd land in the ocean and that would be just fine on a hot day.The Twirlybirch family first showed up in Saudi Arabia while I was spending a few hot and dusty years in Jeddah. I plan to continue telling Twirlybirch tales since it seems like a worthwhile pastime. Beauregard and Sparkle Snowflake deserve to have their stories told and I'm the only one who knows them.

Chapter One
A Getaway Plan
James Twirlybirch was hot and tired. He had just finished mowing the lawn and was ready for breakfast. James and his wife Sara, together with their two children Beauregard and Sparkle Snowflake, lived with James’ sister Gertrude in her home. Auntie Gertrude’s home had a very large hill in the back yard and that was where the kids could be found most days.
As he put the mower away in the garage he heard his wife Sara calling, ‘Breakfast, James!’ While James walked towards the kitchen he looked up to find both Beauregard and Sparkle Snowflake floating under their umbrellas down the hill towards him. ‘You’re just in time kids! Mom and Auntie Gertrude have breakfast ready!’
Auntie Gertrude finished getting the poached eggs and toast ready while Sara poured orange juice into glasses and cut up some fresh fruit she mixed
