    The Word Count Podcast is a passion, more than anything else.

    When I began my own writing journey, I struggled initially to find my own voice. I found reading my work aloud helped me to edit as well as to pinpoint my own style of storytelling.

    The show grew from that. A simple flash fiction exercise. A prompt. Keep it under seven minutes. Tell a story. Read your story to the world.

    Along the way, I made three discoveries that were surprising. The first of which was that there were authors who actually wanted to write for the show. I've had over 80 wordsmiths who have written nearly 350 original stories. The second discovery was even more shocking. A lot of these stories were good...fantastic even.

    In fact, you are holding eight of these fantastic stories in your hand right now.

    Maria Haskins and I have never met in person. Something we will change in the next year or so, I hope. But I know her through her writing. I have her collection of English poems --Cuts & Collected Poems 1989-2015-- I have Odin's Eye, her collection of Sci-Fi short stories. I have two other anthologies she has written for, as well as a copy of her novel Tequila, in the original Swedish from back when she wrote under her maiden name.

    You could say I'm a bit of a fan, along with being her friend.
