      It was dark except for the faint glow of the moon.  Peaceful.  Yes, that's what it was.  Peaceful. 

      Mandy, baby, he whispered, taking her hand in his.  It's just the way you like it, with the flicker of the moon over the sea.

      Perfect for making love, he thought, reaching for her, needing her.

      I love you, Taylor.

      And I love you, he said.  Let me show you how much. 

      He leaned over her, kissing her from her full lips down to her firm breasts, settling on a nipple, sucking until it hardened to his liking.  Her moans of delight told him how much she needed him.  Never leave me, Mandy, he gasped as he pursued her.  Never.

      Forever, Taylor.

      He closed his eyes, surrendering to her, to their love—to the passion of their forever.

      Taylor? Taylor?!  Doctor, is he all right?

      The voice made Taylor sit up abruptly.  He was pissed off at the unwelcome interruption. 

      What the hell?! he shouted, not totally sure who the voice belonged to.  Can’t you see we're busy?!

      Relax, Taylor.  Don’t sit up too quickly.

      All of a sudden, there was a strong hand pushing him backwards.

      Why are you here? he growled.

      Because you collapsed, Taylor.

      He recognized the second voice.  Beau? he mumbled, struggling to sit up.

      Careful, Taylor.  I need a minute to assess you.

      His eyes scratched as he opened them.  Damn, he said, squinting from the glare.

      You'll be fine, the voice said some time later.  But for now, I just need you to stay where you are.  The nurse is bringing some juice.

      Juice?  When Taylor's eyes finally adjusted to the sun, he saw a man dressed in blue scrubs.  You’re a doctor? he asked, confused by what was happening.  Why are you here?

      You fainted, he answered.  Fortunately, your friends caught you on the way down.

      What the hell? Taylor said as he looked up at Beau and Cody.  Why are we out here?

      Beau's face fell.  Because of Mandy, he whispered.

      Mandy?  Mandy's with me.  Out on the beach.  We were—

      She was near the beach, Taylor.

      No, we were on the beach in the moonlight, he insisted.  Just the way she likes it. 

      The nurse interrupted and handed him a glass of juice.  And then it dawned on him.  I'm full of shit, right?  We weren't on the beach, were we?

      Not today, Cody replied, sitting down next to Taylor's gurney.

      Taylor stared back at him.  Give it a minute.  It'll come to you.

      Do you remember anything, Taylor?

      No... yes... I don't... he muttered.  And then, suddenly, the scene flashed in his mind.  The moonlight.  The beach.  What does it all mean? he asked himself.  Out loud, he answered Cody and himself by saying, I don’t know.

      We'll need to bring him back slowly, the nurse said, monitoring his pulse and blood pressure.

      What do you mean bring me back?  From what?  I'm fine.

      Nearly fine, Taylor, she said.  Thanks to your friends.  I'm going to check you in another ten minutes.  If you're steady, the doctor will release you.

      Release me?

      This is a hospital, Beau said.

      But?  But how?  Taylor's mind flashed back.  Back to the water, to the lifeboat.  Oh my god!  Mandy!

      Steady, Taylor, Cody said reaching for him.  How about you don’t go down again.

      What the hell, Cody?  His heartbeat pounded in his ears.  Where is she?  Please tell me!  Where is she?

      She's here, Taylor.  That's why you're here.  You came with her in the ambulance.

      I did?  And then the sight of her lifeless body raced through his brain.  Oh my god.  Was she?  Did she?

      No, Taylor.  No she wasn't.  Don't you remember?  You reached down and found a pulse.

      Taylor tried desperately to remember.  Everything was so fuzzy.  I thought she was dead, he whispered.  And I went to her.

      You did, Taylor.  And you leaned over her and held her.  And then you found a pulse and a faint breath.

      She was unconscious, he stammered, slowly remembering.  And I held her.

      Yes, Taylor.  And you came with her to the hospital in the ambulance.

      But she was still unconscious, Beau.

      They wheeled her away as soon as the ambulance pulled into Emergency.

      And you collapsed, Cody said, finishing for Beau.  Can’t say I blame you.  It was one hell of a shock.
