    Chapter 1

Sera stood outside the steely building she had been inside with Henry and Crispin only moments before. It appeared to be completely abandoned, no sign of people having entered in the past several years. C’mon Henry, she said aloud to herself, tapping her foot as she waited.

He should’ve been out the building already. The fact he was taking this long made her worry something happened to him. She frowned. This wasn’t good.

Sera? a weak voice said from behind her.

She turned and saw Mandy walking towards her, the other woman needing to walk slow as she balanced herself with a crutch. Mandy? What happened? She rushed to the other woman and helped her. You should be in a hospital.

I just came from one. I’ll live. Where is Jules?

Sera shook her head. I didn’t see him today.

I know he’s in there. He told me something about the Marshal coming back, changing knights into Unseen. I can’t let him do this on his own. He told me to go back to the dragon’s house, but I think I’ll be of better use here. She shifted her weight on her feet.

The Marshal is changing the knights into the Unseens? I thought it was just the old man doing things by himself. That changed everything.

The Marshal was capable of bringing the remaining knights holding out around the world together for one central enemy. Whatever he wanted, he got. That was why when he teamed with a dragon named Lysander earlier he was still capable of finding a formidable team to go with him into the fray.

I think he wants to make another army. Jules said he makes me lead it in the future.

Sera raised her eyebrow. In the future?

I’m assuming he was touched by one of those Unseen and was sent away in time.

    What else did he say?

Not much. He was too concerned with running out of here to save Crispin and Henry. He said something about a box too. Mandy looked at the building and was focusing on something higher up.

Save them? Why? Sera figured her brother and mate could take care of themselves in any situation they came across. If Jules felt the need to save them, then it meant they were in serious danger.

Mandy shook her head. I have no idea but I’m going in there. She started hobbling towards the door, leaning to the side as she went.

Well if you’re going in, I’m definitely following. Sera knew she was better prepared to go in there and fight against the Unseen as opposed to Mandy. The other woman was having a hard enough time making it to the entrance of the building, let alone what happened if an Unseen got hold of her.

The first few floors should be cleared from the Unseen. When Sera made her way out moments before, everything was good. It gave her time to ask more questions. So what made you end up in the condition you’re in now? Sera knew it might be rude asking about it, but any information she could get regarding what was happening around her was necessary.

Mandy shook her head. Semi came out of nowhere and slammed into us. I saw a few glimpses of Jules before we were saved, blood dripping from his body everywhere. Then the next thing I know, I’m in a hospital bed.

    And Jules?

I don’t know. He was in the room with me but he certainly didn’t look appear to be one of the patients. Mandy turned her attention to one of the nearby rooms they were crossing. I can tell you went through here.

Sera turned in the direction she indicated and saw the fire marks remaining on the wall. Yeah. This place was full of them before we showed. I think it’s the central location where they’re congregating.

    For what?

No idea. Crispin spoke about a box changing people into Unseen. If the Marshal is here and plans on changing more knights into Unseen, then it stands to reason this entire place will be filled with those before the day ends.

That was a bold statement for Sera to say and she knew the other woman thought the same thing. Nothing was ever finalized. Things could always be changed. It only looked as though there was no way to stop the Marshal from whatever plan he had. They’d solve it.

The best hope they had was Annabel somehow convincing the Unseen to stop feeding upon the humans and destroying themselves. There were too many creatures for the dragons to take on by themselves. They’d need more help.

We have to make it to the top floor.

    Why?

Because that’s where everything’ll happen. I know the Marshal – I know how he likes things to be done.

What about the dark man who created the Unseen? Shouldn’t we concentrate on stopping him as well? Sera didn’t want to leave any sort of loose end around. If she could, she’d destroy the man while her brother was busy trying to help Annabel.

Mandy shook her head. We have to focus on one problem at a time. The dark man – we don’t know where he is – but the Marshal’s waiting up there. Once we stop him, we stop the Unseen knights. They won’t have anyone to take orders from except Annabel and I’m sure she’ll figure out what to do with them.

The two women climbed the stairwell leading onto the higher floors. Sera had a feeling they’d stop the Marshal like Mandy said. The other woman had been with the man for several years and knew how he thought.

It was better to stop the Unseen knights first before dealing with the man who created them. When they dealt with him, Sera was certain the dragons were going to rip him apart. It was their job after all – defend mankind from the Unseen. They couldn’t stop at this point.

    Chapter 2

Annabel turned to Crispin and raised her hands, noticing they remained in the shape of the smoky mist of an Unseen. Wait, Crispin. It’s me – Annabel. I can explain all of this. She tried to change herself back into her human form but found it much harder than she anticipated.

She had a hard time changing into her Unseen form and now she was having difficulty getting out of it. She wished things worked for once the way it always worked for everyone else.

He’s going to attack you now. See how he loves you? All he cares about is ridding the world of the Unseen and you’re one, the Marshal seemed to whisper into Annabel’s ear from across the distance.

She knew the man was nowhere near her. He was still in the same position as before, far away from the doorway Crispin stood in. Talking into someone’s ear when they were distant from one another was the way of the Unseen. They were too scared to get close in case someone harmed them.

She pushed his words aside. "Crispin, can you hear me? Give me a
