About this ebook

Swerlie-Wherlie, the adventurous piglet, is exploring a quarry when he slips and is helped by Butts the Goat.
Butts offers to show him his secret place – deep underground.
They find a friend of Swerlie-Wherlie, Shep the sheepdog, locked in a small room in one of the underground passages.
Trying to escape from the humans who had locked him in, they fall into a tunnel and get lost.
They are saved by the sudden appearance of Izzzzzabella the grass snake, another friend of Swerlie-Wherlie who knows a way out but first they must try and rescue Shep.
They are too late. Shep was not where they had left him.
Izzzzzabella knows of a short cut that would take them to where Shep might be.
Unfortunately, they got there just as Shep is being taken away.
Swerlie-Wherlie had an idea that might save Shep but only if Butts can do what goats are famous for.
Meanwhile, Scratch the farm cat, has upset Cockie the Cockerel because of the way he had treated Donald the duckling.
As always, Cockie has a way of doing things his way.

    ‘Quaaaack. Quaaaack.’

    ‘Quaaaack. Quaaaack.’

The row from the duck pond stopped Swerlie-Wherlie just as he reached Farmer Blox’s farmyard gate.

Looking round, he saw the farm cat, Scratch, crouched down by the edge of the duck pond. He was trying to reach a little duckling sitting on a small rock.

A big father drake, flapping wings spread wide, was trying to get between them. Three other ducks, swimming in the middle of the pond added to the noise, hoping to scare Scratch away.

‘What do you think you are doing, Scratch.’

Striding out from behind the tractor, Cockie the cockerel called out angrily.

Then he said, ‘Stop it now or I will get very cross with you.’

Scratch looked across at Cockie and slowly stood up and stretched his legs, before saying.

‘I was only having a bit of fun Cockie. There’s not much to do round here.’

    ‘Fun! Fun,’ squawked Cockie.

‘Just look at poor little Donald. He’s scared to death, poor thing.’

Scratch didn’t hear. He had already scooted off. He had just remembered that it must be near milking time and he ran as quickly as he could to the milking shed. Farmer Blox always spilt some milk and he wasn’t going to miss that.
