    It was a little after eight AM local time. August the eighth. A Thursday. But not like any previous Thursday.

    The morning shift had mostly finished having breakfast. Elves* were now quietly making their way towards The Workshop.

    (*Did I forget to mention this was The North Pole? Home of Santa's Workshop? Okay. Presence of Elves explained, major confusion avoided. Are you back on track now? Good.)

    Because on this particular Thursday, Santa Claus died.
