About this ebook

The Dokkaebi is a small, goblin-like mythical creature from Korean folklore. In "The Magic Axe," the Boy With No Name and his father are struggling to make ends meet in their small, mountain village in Northern Korea. Then one day, while walking through the woods, the boy encounters a mischievous Dokkaebi. He receives a gift from the Dokkaebi that saves him and his father from despondency. But soon the boy must decide whether to give up the gift to help rescue a village elder and his daughter. In an epic battle against a fire-breathing Wyvern in a deep, dark cave, the boy will confront his destiny; a destiny that the Dokkaebi knew all along.

In the "Silver Sword" a young man named Jae-Sun also receives a life changing gift from the all-knowing, yet impish, Dokkaebi . Like the boy with no name, Jae-Sun lives in poverty in a small Korean village. He and his father are serfs working under the heel of the evil, sadistic Kyu-Hook. Jae-Sun must decide whether to use the Dokkaebi's gift for revenge or as a lifeline for him and his father. It's all part of the Dokkaebi's plan to teach humans about the foolishness of greed and vengeance. These Dokkaebi tales are earnest and at times humorous. But, in the end, they are inspirational in the morals and lessons they teach young readers.

On the other hand, "The Blood Blossom" is a grim, dark, tale about a group of scientists who are searching for a life-saving flower on a seemingly deserted island. To their shock and horror, they encounter giant, flesh-eating centipedes that covet the flower as an aphrodisiac. Not everyone escapes alive and even the centipedes suffer losses. Who will capture the mystical Blood Blossom and its incredible powers? A happy ending is always in doubt in this ghoulish dark fantasy.
