About this ebook
Upon returning from a trade show, Joe King, a salesman, stops for a cup of coffee at a kiosk in the airport. To his consternation, an attractive young woman, whom he’s never met before, gives him a big hug and a warm kiss. Realizing her mistake, she apologizes and hurries off--but not before he gets her name, Letty Farrell. Unable to get her out of his mind, he spends hours, searching the internet for information about her. All in vain.
By chance, he runs into her at an arts and crafts shop on Cape Cod. When he asks her out for dinner, she, reluctantly, accepts. Enjoying each other’s company, they begin going out together. She, however, refuses to tell him anything about herself and warns him that they can never be anything more than friends. Because he’s fallen in love with her, he accepts the limits she has placed on their relationship.
Only after a visit by an FBI agent, an encounter with one of her college friends, and the publication of her photo in a newspaper, does he learn the true identity of this mysterious, beautiful young woman.

Although I’ve made my living as a teacher and guidance counselor, I’ve always had a passion for writing. Thomas Bouregy and Company published my novel, Return to Paradise Cove, under their Avalon imprint. Two of my one-act plays, A Different Kind of Death, and The Flirt, have been produced, respectively, in New Haven, Connecticut, and Sacramento, California. Short stories of mine have appeared in commercial magazines such as Action and True Romance as well as in certain literary and professional ones.

I work as a salesman for a chemical company in a suburb of Boston. At the risk of being called a braggart, let me say I'm good at what I do and, for that reason, I'm paid well. Obscenely so, some might say. In servicing my accounts and creating new ones, however, I often find myself on the road or in the air.
One drizzly afternoon of what was a cool and wet spring, the pilot of Delta Airlines flight number 956 brought me safely home from a trade fair in Geneva, Switzerland. After scooping up my luggage from the baggage carousel, I decided to get a cup of coffee. No sooner had I stopped at a kiosk in the teeming concourse of the airport to order one than, behind me, I heard a voice shout, Oh, Peter, darling, I can't believe it's you!
When I turned around, to my surprise, I found myself in the warm embrace of a woman, whom never before had I set eyes upon. The next thing I knew her lips swooped down upon mine. Had I wanted to protest the liberties she was taking with me, the fragrance of her perfume, at that moment, would've rendered me incapable of doing so.
How long I was held in that warm embrace, frankly, I have no idea. But all good things in life, as the saying goes, must come to an end and, so, unfortunately, too, did this one. As she withdrew her lips from mine, released her hold, and stepped back, standing before me, I saw a slim, willowy brunette with patrician features--namely, sparkling hazel eyes, smooth skin with pale gold undertones, a finely chiseled nose, and a charmingly sensual mouth. The camel long-sleeve coat, burgundy midi-dress, and Serpenti gold necklace, which she was wearing, only added to her allure.
Believe me; had I ever met her before, I'd never have forgotten her. Look, Miss, I--I think you've made a mistake,
I sputtered, struggling to regain my composure.
Oh, Peter, you haven't changed a bit,
she chided, dismissing my weak protest with a wave of her hand. I could spot you a mile away.
She had a slight accent and, as she was speaking, she was glancing warily around.
I'm-I'm not Peter,
I replied, running a finger
