About this ebook
Eastern and Western mentality.. girlfriend as an example.
100 commandments to my Eastern girl-friend
Very big is the difference between western and eastern way of thinking regarding many things and as dealing with many ideas. Taking that into consideration, it is clear that sometimes, the same word has big difference in both cultures.
Let us take for example the word "girlfriend".. when we think of the word taking the western way of thinking and living, we find that a girlfriend is somebody who is close to you and sometimes, eating, living or even having emotional feelings towards him.. let me take the words of Wikipedia, " A girlfriend is a female friend or acquaintance, often a regular female companion with whom one is platonic, romantically or sexually involved. This could be a long-term committed relationship. This is normally a short-term committed relationship" this is the way of the word when we think of the way Western people think of it but, is it the same whenever we translate the ideological meaning of the word into Arabic?
Actually, and due to the mental, religious and cultural concepts of the word, it is very different in meaning.. people in the East have very stick and obvious barriers regarding separation in the kind and way of relation between men and women and even in the free minded communities in the Eastern countries, and due to the family-based structure of the community, it is almost impossible for any relation to exceed the norms of the community because of that barrier is stricken in the mind and soul of each and every person in the East. Even for those who travel to Europe for the sake of study or work have that way of thinking with them and even if they started to act like the Western way of life, they will tend to act in accordance with their original mentality and whenever they go back to their country, they will have the original norms into consideration.
So.. what is the best way to think and to have a mentality to follow? The most suitable way is to be the spectator of reality and the observer of truth.. to follow and study the way communities live and act into accordance and of course, try to make a good change in the mentality.. try to change the bad norms and highlight the pros of culture..
My reader.. this book is dedicated to you.. you are the Arab reader of English.. you have studied the western and eastern mentality and of course you know the pros and cons of each of them.. my advice to you is try to make the ultimate change in both cultures. Ty to eliminate the differences.. try to make the ultimate change.. do your best to tell the Western people that Eastern communities can never accept interconnected relationship before marriage because of it is due to their way of thinking.. it is because of their religious views.. it is because of their ancient civilizations that goes back in time for more than 5000 years ago.. it is because of they consider family, marriage and sex as holy, sacred and connected to supreme realms.. nobody wish or dare to contradict them . and not because of these communities are backward and reactionary communities .
