About this ebook

Sixty-odd more titles make up the seventh volume in the Moments in Rhyme series, making up roughly the first half of an extended journey through Sri Lanka, India and Nepal.
At times comic and at others soul-searching, these titles mark the next stage in the poetic road-trip that the author’s life. Rabindranath Tagore it is not - these poems are merely one man’s experiences captured in verse. Still good though.

Stephen Brown

Author, artist, Reiki healer and horse trainer, Stephen Brown is a lover of Creativity in all its guises. His writing is varied, from fantasy, sci-fi and other novels, to poetry and haiku. He likes to be both deep and thought-provoking as well as humorous and nonsensical at the same time - in no way does he see the two things as contradictory. He writes for the sheer pleasure of it, but admits that if he can make a buck or two... well, that's fine too!

    Introduction

Strange how you can arrive at a place you have never been before and instantly feel a sense of familiarity, a sense of belonging; a sense of being home.

I had finally set off for the depthless, mystifying sub-continent, beginning with Sri Lanka and then going wherever my journey might take me. It felt so good to be back on the road and living by my wits again. With no plan, nothing definitive I wanted to do and no particular destination in mind, I set off with nothing but a great sense of adventure, to see what I would see.

It was not all plain sailing of course, but it was an unbelievable experience. To feel your life to be full again, filled and enriched every day by new and magical experiences rather than simply existing in a colourless routine of work and home, TV and bed... It makes you soar as a person, makes you realise just what a wonderful place the world is, what an amazing thing your life is. Fantastic.

This is not a collection about India, Sri Lanka and Nepal – it is about my own journey and emotions as I travelled through them, a poetic insight into my own personal experiences.

    Enjoy xx

    LANKA

    Introduction

In Sri Lanka I was immediately taken by the friendliness of the people, and also my friendliness towards them. My Niji persona cracked his way out of the egg I’d built up around him and came stumbling out into the sun once more.

Lanka was a good beginning. Hard at first, as it usually is, but good.

    FIRST WEEK BLUES

    So I’m sitting again/ It’s what I do best/ Not at a desk/ But at a table for two/ I wish I knew/ Just what I was doing/ Some kind of test/ Self-imposed/ But it’s no longer the same/ This is not a game/ It’s real/ What do I feel?

A spent ashtray from an early riser/ A stark reminder/ Of other people/ Not here with me/ My own company/ Used to be all I needed/ But I can’t claim that any more/ I’m desperate/ Hell that’s for sure/ For someone else/ To have someone close/ ‘Cos all I’ve got right now is ghosts/ And man they’re haunting me

Maybe it’s just the first week blues/
