      Fast-paced, many-plotted, moving, exciting and highly entertaining.The main character is a rare male witch. His extremely controlling and powerful mother has insisted he attend college as a witch, where he has been marginalized and abused since day one. He has several personal issues and personality ticks from his upbringing and he's sand-bagging his magic skills so no one sees him as a mortal threat, or a threat to the Dominion (the ruling matriarchal council of witches). Throw into his background a vamprie lover who desperately wants a commited relationship but deals with vampire politics, a part-time job at a bar with its own perils, a serial killer on the loose, a secret society trying to recruit ambitious male witches, and his shapeshifting abilities he must keep secret from the Dominion. It's a whirl!The sequel, Reclaimation, is due Nov. 2 and I will definitely be picking it up.

      I must have missed what the 4 and 5 star reviews liked out of this book. I think what weirded me out was despite the fact that there was not a whole lot of sex I still felt the hero was sexually loose. Which, in itself does not reduce the star value, but it does reduce my enjoyment of the character.


      I really feel like the author could have described the relationship of the mother better. I think we were supposed to hate her? But then she would do something nice that I guess was supposed to make us think she had layers; it just made me think the author was lazy.


      I will say that I enjoyed the water scene and I loved any scenes when we got him as an animal. But even that could not bump my overall enjoyment up. I rounded up, but really this felt like a 2.5 score.

      Loved it. Hopefully there will be more about Seiran's adventures. Can't wait to find out.
