Alexis Dare

Alexis Dare lives in a small Southern town. During her free time, Alexis loves to read and can often be found with a book (whether it be the paper or digital kind) in her hands. She can also play a mean game of Pool and enjoys playing it with her family. Forever fascinated by the paranormal, Alexis pens novels featuring werecreatures (love those Alphas!), vampires, ghosts, and more! Her first novel, Witchy Wolf, was just recently published in the box set, Fated Mates: The Alpha Shifter Boxed Set by Insatiable Reads, which hit the USA Today and NYT bestselling lists. This book is the first of a series about Chloe Jackson and her dealings with biker Gabriel Denton. So keep an eye out for the other books in the series and read them all, IF YOU DARE! I woke up disoriented in the dark. I heard a constant humming and felt the floor of whatever I lay on vibrating. Realizing, I was lying on my side with my legs tucked to my chest, I tried to stretch out but couldn’t. My heart lurched as I realized I was in a small compartment of some kind. I took a deep breath and immediately began coughing from the fumes I inhaled.

Shit! I must be in the trunk of a car.’

Feeling around me, I touched a rough fabric of some kind underneath me and figured it must be the carpet lining the truck. Reaching above me, I could feel the smoothness of metal heated by the sun.

I couldn't smell anything over the fumes coming from the tailpipe somewhere beneath me. I heard blaring music coming from the front of the car, but I couldn't hear any voices. A sudden bump jolted my entire body, and sent me careening up toward the lid of the trunk causing my shoulder to hit it with a thunk.

Damn, that hurt! I have got to get out of here!’

I pressed my palms against the underside of the trunk lid and pushed with all of my might but nothing happened. I just could not get enough leverage in the cramped space. I attempted to turn onto my back in order to get my feet up against the lid, but the confines of the trunk were too tight.

    Chapter 1

Green meadows swirled in the wind, and a faint song lingered in the air. It seemed as though I should be able to understand the words, but I couldn’t quite catch them. A bubbling brook sparkled in the distance.

I woke up to the sensation of something soft tickling my bare back. In my groggy state, it took me a moment to realize the tickles were Gabe's lips pressing soft, tingling kisses against my skin. His lips continued up to my shoulder, and I turned to face him.

    Good morning, baby.

    Morning, darling.

He grinned wickedly and pounced. Kisses rained down on me, from my lips to my breasts. He sucked a stiff peak into his mouth, and his hand slid down to cup my mound. Heat spread through me like an electric storm. I went from half asleep to filled with desire in an instant.

    Oh, Gabe.

His mouth moved lower and warmth coiled in my belly. I rode the waves of pleasure wrought by his tongue. Just before I rolled crashing over the edge, he moved up and slid inside me. I moaned his name.

Every touch of his skin to mine sent electricity flowing through me, and being filled by him brought me screaming. Wrapping my legs around his hips, I let the passion take me. Release took me hard and fast, and it drowned me, sending me crashing helplessly over the next crest.

I reached for him, but he stopped me and pinned my hands onto the mattress above my bed.

    No.

His breathing was jagged as he gazed down at me.

    Just take it. Take me.

He began to move in slow thrusts. I bucked against him, urging him to go faster, but he resisted.

    Gabe, please!

He changed to long, steady strokes.

    Take it, he breathed.

He moved slowly, and it felt as though my body was under siege. My sex felt so sensitive the pleasure was almost painful, but still he didn’t speed up.

    Gabe…it’s too much. Please!

    Let go, baby.

He held on and didn’t let himself go until I did. Then we both fell.

Damn, he said as he grinned down at me. Let’s wake up like that every morning.

I had to agree with him. There was nothing like kick starting the day with a wake up romp. Reaching over, I twisted the switch on the lamp. Nothing happened.

Is it time to replace all of the light bulbs in this room? I called out to Gabe who had sauntered into the bathroom to take a shower. This was the second time in as many days that a light bulb had burned out in Gabe’s bedroom.

Shrugging my shoulders, I rolled out of bed and threw on some clothes. I hoped Emily had fixed something yummy for breakfast. Morning sex always left me famished.

I padded barefoot down the back staircase that led into the kitchen. A smile began to form on my face when I saw Harmony sitting at the island in the middle of the kitchen, but it quickly turned into a grimace when I spied Beth standing at the sink. Tension reigned in the fractured relationship between Beth and Gabe.

I knew I shared some of the blame, but if he hadn't been so blind to what smacked him upside the face every time Beth was around him, the issue would have been dealt with long before I ever entered their lives. In the six months since discovering Gabe belonged to me as my fated mate, I attempted to at least be civil to Beth, as a favor to Gabe considering his long standing friendship with her. I did try, but Beth rebuffed every attempt I made.

I breathed in deep and let it out. I would not let the bitchy blonde ruin my day.

    Good morning, Beth and Harmony.

As usual, Beth shot me a death glare. Without speaking a word, she spun from the sink and stalked out of the room.

Ooh, denied, sang Harmony, but you know I will always tell you good morning.

Oh well, at least I tried.

Shaking my head, I padded over to the stove to investigate the contents of the big, silver pot on the back burner. I lifted the lid and saw that Emily had cooked oatmeal for breakfast. I had yet to figure out how Emily managed to keep the oatmeal from turning into a lumpy, sodden mess.

Even instant oatmeal never came out right for me. I couldn't imagine making such a large amount from scratch and keeping it the correct consistency. I grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and scooped some oatmeal out of the pot. I rummaged in the spice cabinet and found the cinnamon sugar to sprinkle on top of it.

Maybe I could get Emily to give me some cooking lessons. I almost laughed aloud at that thought. Yeah, right! Like lessons would help me! I could barely boil an egg without catastrophe.

Susie always did the cooking before… I felt a tug on my heart at the thought of my best friend. Tears welled in my eyes. The pain of her loss still hit me at unexpected moments. I missed her more than words could express, but at least I had some comfort in knowing her killer had paid the price.

Now, if they could only catch the man who gave the order for Susie's death, her justice would be complete. Gabe and the twins, Brady and Ben, were investigating, but so far, they had not discovered his identity.

I shook the thoughts from my mind and quickly wiped my eyes. Grabbing my bowl, I headed over to the island and pulled out a chair beside Harmony. No one would ever replace Susie, but Harmony had been a godsend to me the past six months. She’d stuck by my side from the moment I entered the compound and took it upon herself to keep me up to date on the goings on with the pack. We became fast friends.

So any big plans for the day? Harmony asked.

Nah, just work. I’ve got to head out soon.

    Just lunch shift today?

Yep, which is just as well. Gabe had some work to do at the shop, so it worked out okay. I noticed you weren’t on the schedule for today. Lucky you!

Harmony laughed. It won’t be lucky me when it comes time to pay my bills!

I instantly felt bad. Becoming a fated mate to Gabe meant I
