About this ebook
King Larient and Queen Adarana lost their daughter. Rumors said she was taken by the dreaded Witch of Thornberry Wood. Years later, at the Spring Festival in an outlying town in his kingdom, Larient sees a young woman walk out of the woods. Realizing it is his daughter, he is overjoyed at her return, but disturbed by the fact she was naked and marked heavily with scars all over her body. The witch then shows up demanding him to return the young woman back to her, and Hilworth the court mage seems powerless to stop her. This is not your typical fairy tale. Contains graphic gore and some mild adult situations.

Once upon a time, in a land far away - in a wood deep and dark, there lived a wicked witch named Bezzlewroth, but known better as the Witch of Thornberry Wood. The villagers that lived at the edge of the wood seldom ventured into the forest. Tales of horrors and supernatural happenings were told and re-told, keeping the villagers away from those fell woods.
Occasionally, a stranger would be foolhardy and attempt to cross through the forest in order to get to the castle on the other side instead of traveling on the mountain path six days ride to the north or riding the river south for five days before being able to skirt the dread territory of the dreaded witch. Cutting through the forest would cut the time and distance in half! So some would enter the dark woods.
None ever came out.
Rumors flew that they were eaten by creatures that served Bezzlewroth. Others say they became the creatures that served her. But nobody really knew for certain.
Then came the great Spring Festival. Every year the villagers would make a week-long celebration of the coming of the season of renewal! Musicians were hired, or some were locals that would join in. Foods were prepared by all of the women, some preparing soups, others meat plates, pastries and pies! The ale and wine flowed aplenty and merriment reigned.
Even King Larient, who seldom enjoyed anything these days, made the long trip through the mountain pass and took part of the merriment. He seldom let anybody know his heart was broken, but all knew. His wife, Queen Adarana, never left the castle anymore. Not once in the past twenty years. Larient knew why, and most of the kingdom figured the reason correctly, but only Larient and his royal physician knew how badly she had been affected.
His friend and the duke of his southernmost province, Godfrey had come to the festival as he always did. He did this every year to spend some time away from business, to enjoy the festivities, and to see Larient, who had been his friend since they were both very young. He always said that if he didn’t take a holiday away from the business of running the southern province, he would go mad and bark at the moon.
On this particular Festival celebration, on the second day of the festivities, the light of the sun went dark, making all seem as blackest night. Lightning arced through the sky and the earth began to rumble. Everybody became
