Foreword
I love cheese. I also love DIY cooking projects. The idea of making my own cheese, however, never occurred to me until I ran out of DIY cooking projects and went digging around online for something new to try.
Like most people, I was fairly certain that making cheese required owning a dairy farm, or in the very least, a large factory facility. Knowing that I had neither of these things, I was quite content to buy my cheeses at the local grocery store or specialty store. As I went digging around for new DIY cooking projects that I hadn’t yet tried though, I ran across a website dedicated to homemade cheese making. As it turns out, it is more than possible to make your own cheese without owning a single cow (or goat) and without any type of factory equipment. This meant that I now had one less item to buy at the store and one more item that I could customize in my own kitchen. I had already perfected bread, pies, roasts, casseroles, slow cooking recipes and even my own candy, but as a cheese lover, this was the ultimate discovery!
As with most DIY cooking projects, I went a little crazy with my research, ensuring that I knew everything I needed to know before I began cooking. As I researched, I jotted down notes, scoured the web for ingredient lists and compiled recipes. Soon enough I found myself with a book's worth of notes and a refrigerator full of cheese. So I thought, what better way to share my cheese making experience while also educating other DIY cooks about how quick and easy it can be to make your own cheese at home! Yes, I said easy!
