About this ebook

Men have been fighting with each other for a long time over what they think separates them, like race, religion, and nationality. But they do not have to live in conflict; there is another way. BROvolution means ‘men evolving into brothers’. It is about men overcoming their differences, uniting as brothers, and evolving to treat each other better so we can live in peace and prosperity.

    Brovolution - Stan Tristn Welch

    Introduction

    To the men of the world,

    It’s hard being a bro today. There are so many pressures to conform to traditional standards of what you are supposed to think and how you are supposed to act.

    For many men, including myself, it has been confusing and troubling because when I look at our world it appears to be really messed up. Wars, environmental degradation, racial division and inequality, poverty and other plights abound.  Most of these problems were created by men.  So something obviously isn’t working in how men operate and how men think.

    It seems like men have faulty thinking, which leads to faulty actions, that keep repeating over and over, from generation to generation. I believe that we are smarter than this and it’s time for us to change. Our families and planet depend on it. This is serious and in order for things in the world to get better, we as men/bros must change. That is what this book and the BROvolution movement are all about. It’s time to reevaluate what we have been taught to think and how we ultimately act. It starts with challenging our old habitual thinking, which creates the potential for new and different thinking, which can translate into different actions and ultimately a better world.

    This is why I believe that what you are about to read could change your life. It could even change the course of the entire world. That’s how important this book could be for you. At its core this book and The BROvolution movement are a call to your deepest humanity and to your greatest vision for a better life for yourself and the world.

    There is a reason you are reading this book at this moment in your life. It is not an accident. You may have come to the point in your life where you know something needs to shift and change, not only in the world, but within yourself. And by reading this book you will either discover or be reminded that in order for the world to change, you must change. Only by changing yourself will you have a direct impact on changing the world.

    So I invite you to read this book with an open mind and an open heart. As you do your truth will reveal itself to you. Whatever your truth is I encourage you to take action on that truth for it comes from deep within you. It is stronger than what you may have been taught about what you should think, how you should act, and what you should do/be in life.

    If you are inspired after reading this book, and the concepts and call to action within it deeply resonate with you, we welcome you to become part of the BROvolution and share this inspiration with others.

    I want to close this introduction by sharing something that deeply moved me while I was watching the television show Togetherness. The premise of this scene captured the essence of BROvolution and I want to share it with you.

    In the scene were two middle-aged men who had been best friends since childhood. They dug up a time capsule they had buried years ago when they were teenagers. In the time capsule they found a vow which when they read it aloud was very emotional for them. They were reconnecting with an important part of themselves that had been literally buried for years. I want to share their vow with you as it was inspirational to me and speaks to the essence of the BROvolution.

    Their vow stated: Remember our vow is to stay true to the spirit of life. For within a man there is light. And if he lets that light shine, he lights up the entire world. And if he doesn’t, he lives in total darkness.

    As you read this book and connect with the messages and concepts within it, I encourage you and all my brothers around the world to stay true to the spirit of your life and let your light shine so you can light up the entire world!

    Welcome to the BROvolution!

    Chapter 1

    The Greed of Men

    Are you man enough to love the whole world?

    The manufacturing sector in our country produces marvelous products that have greatly improved how we live and enjoy our lives. Our homes are protective, well lit, and keep us comfortable with automated climate control. We can drive electric cars monitored by computers and guided by GPS, all while listening to satellite radio.

    But while the factories have been rolling out these shiny new products to attract our business, many of them have been expelling pollution into the air and flushing chemicals into the water to keep their costs down and profits up.

    * * *

    Politicians seeking votes deliver eloquent speeches, offering us a vision of better times to come. After we elect them, however, we discover that many, regardless of party affiliation, sometimes do the bidding of their biggest campaign contributors, without much regard for what is best for the rest of us.

    * * *

    The financial sector has created an almost endless number of attractive mortgage and investment opportunities. But too often we hear stories of dashed hopes, where families lose their homes, savings, and investments, while the people that crafted those deals make money.

    * * *

    In seemingly grave times our leaders have come to us and asked if we would be willing to fight evil. They tell us there is a villainous force whose cruel actions kill innocent people and take their land. Occasionally, our leaders tell us these villains are planning to attack us and we must stop them at all costs.

    We have kind hearts and will not stand by and let innocent people be harmed, so we fund an offensive, perpetuate the military machine, and send our sons and daughters off to war.

    With the passage of time, historians inform us that some of the past wars were actually land and resource grabs by the men whose businesses profited from the turmoil of war.

    * * *

    When we look back over the history of men, we see that among our good efforts to make progress, we have frequently resorted to greed in an attempt to secure success. This greed is like a one-eyed cyclops which is only able to see what it wants and is blind to the needs and rights of everyone else. On our path toward progress, many men have greedily grabbed more than their fair share.

    Where does all this greed come from?

    Chapter 2

    Who Is Responsible?

    Some people say powerful, corrupt men are in charge of the big corporations and institutions in our country, and their greedy ways are responsible for many of the problems we face. In some cases, this has proven to be true, as evidenced by the frequent stories reported in the news.

    But these businessmen are not the only wrongdoers. Men from all areas of life are found veering off the course of right and proper action, choosing shortcuts to get what they want. Greed does not appear to discriminate who it offers itself to, but rather, is an equal opportunity challenge. Whenever a man’s ethics are found to be weakened by a strong desire, greed is often the cause.

    Consider the small agricultural town where farmers have been working the land for many generations. In this town, as in many small towns, everyone knows everyone else. Over the past thirty years, the town has experienced some growth in population with new neighborhoods being built, but has maintained its small-town relationships.
