    Fishing Basics - Lonnie Carr

    Introduction

Fishing is a way to get back to nature. For most of us who really don’t fish as much or fish at all really don’t understand the concept of standing at the edge of the river with a stick with a string hanging off the end of it drowning a worm. For many of us the concept is alien but for others it is a religious experience.

When I was in school, I had a teacher, Mr. White. Every year his eyes would grow big in his head, and you would see that he had a little more spring in his step. I would look at him and ask why he was so happy. With a grin and a look as if I didn’t already know he would tell me "it is opening day this weekend.'

Now for many of you who are reading this and don’t know what opening day is it is the day you are legally allowed to go out and fish. Now I bet you are wondering can’t you fish all year round?

Well, unfortunately, you can’t. For many states as well as other areas around the world, there are laws enforced by the game and wildlife association where you can only do so much and at a specific time. This is done in order to ensure that we have an abundance of fish in our lakes, streams, and oceans. If we were to just allow people to fish whenever they wanted, then we would soon have nothing left.
