      Johann is imprisoned in a dungeon, sentenced to remain until she spins straw into gold. Then a fairy comes to offer her a wicked bargain. He’s like no man she’s ever met, and he’ll spin straw into gold if she’ll be his sex slave. If she can guess his name, the sensual spell will end.

      But after time with him, she finds she doesn’t want to end his possession of her body

      —or her soul.

      PROLOGUE

      Once upon a time,

      There was a maiden in jeopardy.

      She had no prince to sweep her off her feet.

      Release me! This is madness! Johann yanked at her arms in an attempt to escape the two soldiers holding her captive. Father! I cannot weave straw into gold. She swiveled her neck to look back at her sire. No one is that clever! Please, Father?

      Stone-faced, the man who’d raised her paid her no mind as he remained in the presence of their king.

      Father! She pulled and pulled in an attempt to gain freedom. What have you done? Panicked, she jerked and flailed in hopes of escape from her captors.

      Be still, girl. The guard to her right shook her so hard she stumbled.

      The second guard caught her and she quickly steadied herself. Come along now. Crying and wailing will do you no good. Our king has spoken his wishes.

      Ja, she agreed, the king had spoken. She’d been summoned to the castle where it was now expected of her to work magic. No, not magic—only a miracle would save her from certain death.
