About this ebook
Poetic narrative exploring contemporary life. Xoetry 2017 is a contrasting collection of poems where what may be considered as opposite emotions, subjects, themes, merge into one poetic experience. Life as one, death, love, loss, hope, friendship, the passing and the stillness of time, the human essence and its legacy are all explored in this very personal collection of poems. In Xoetry 2017, Xoanxo seeks to highlight the contrast between the real and the conceptual, unveiling the essence of the subject and its relationship with the ever changing surroundings. A poetic gathering that leads the reader to question specific certainties about their own identity and its relationship with the essential aspects, often ignored, of their own experience of life.

Galician Artist and Poet. The works I produce speak for themselves, but only to those who are willing to listen. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and so...some viewers and readers respond to them and some may not, in the end, is all about discovering Love within oneself. Biography The best definition I was ever given of myself was from my good friend Aziz who once said to me "You are what makes this moment possible". I like that!!! From that view is how I aim to collaborate with my emotions, circumstances, surroundings when living my life. My contribution in the creation of Art works and Writings do not differ on how I approach social relations or any other type of interaction. Sometimes, instinctively, spontaneously, in collaboration with my surroundings, often responding to how they behave in an impulsive, emotional or unconscious way, but sometimes with premeditation and intention to manipulate or to serve my own needs, wants or desires. The process of creating leads me often to disappear as an idea where time ceases to exist and conflicts completely vanish, it is then, when I truly feel I have become "one" with the "moment"...I realise that the works I help creating are the results of my collaboration with many other factors which are completely out of my control and my own contribution does not always follow a reasoned or logical process of thought. While in the past I aimed at becoming a different artist by attempting to do something new, unique, original, different to anything that had been done before, I now consider "Originality" to be the sincere expression of oneself, and That is what I aim at Today with my Art and Life. If you are reading this, I hope you enjoy the works!!! For more information you can also visit www.xoanxo.com

Poetry may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings which form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate; for our lives are mostly a constant evasion of ourselves
.
T. S. Eliot
To Mónica, Benji, Alba, Sandra and Ruben
Foreword:
I first came across the poetry and artwork of Galician creator of mixed media Xoanxo Cespon on an artist’s website. I could neither pronounce his name nor enlarge the thumbnail image to get a better look at this straw hatted man’s shadowed profile striding with purpose across a remote cliff top under a blue, blue sky, a paradox in some ways, as I discovered when reading his poetry that the pace was much slower in contrast, full of inward reflections, of deep connections with silence, searching mindfully for truths of the past, the nostalgic, the lost heroes, while voicing his concerns for future generations, no lessons learned from past wars, atrocities, the powerful, hungry for control over the man on the street.
He spoke of Spanish bloodshed with words wrenched from the real experiences of his forefathers. This history may well have been the seed for his creative expression. Oxo was the name I quite quickly adhered to when communicating with Xoanxo, pronounced Sho an sho.
Other artists and writers formed a close knit community and Xoanxo’s combinations of photography, art and poetry put to music and read in his Galician and Spanish tongues produced for video viewing, entranced us all. We would wait eagerly for the poet’s next romantic gravelly voice pouring out his latest contemplative findings. Soon enough, there was a collaboration of artist’s and writer’s poetry put into print through the effort and generosity of another prolific poet Thao Chuong (Viet Tran). The book was titled On the wings O’ Butterflies
. Xoanxo, was also in another collaboration configured again by Thao Chuong, titled Wandering clouds
. Seven years later we are still a close team, posting poetry, and images, inspiring and encouraging each other, all feeling a part of Xoanxo’s creative journey.
We were especially attentive when he travelled back and forth from Amsterdam to Galicia during his beloved father’s illness and eventual passing, when words were lain down lovingly on the page as in the lines:
I will give you away…
