About this ebook

Ian has his whole life ahead of him when the omega is tagged for possible selection in the Advisory Towers. Inexperienced but dutiful, he answers the call, unsure of what his future holds when a Warrior Witch stakes immediate claim in his First Viewing before the council. The WarriorWitch is wild-spirited and passionate, hiding his pain behind a veneer of power. But his wounds quickly draw a distance between them, that Ian takes to task as an omega. Drawing from depths he barely knew he possessed, he opens to his bond with the WarriorWitch, becoming the safe place he knows his mate needs. Jora inches into that bond with a tenacious hold that quickly takes seed in Ian, making them eligible for official mating in the eyes of the council – to the chagrin of those who attempted to restrict Ian's tower permissions before their mating bond filled his belly with the legacy the tower seeks with its tagging of farm and city wolves: Witchwolves. Witchwolves they hope will one day bring down the Milcith threatening their magical existence.

Oh, Rutegga! We have to get a few bulbs of this stuff. There'll be magik in your pot tonight, Rivva.

Ian hoisted up one of the blue-purple bulbs excitedly. They had enough on their ration cards to make it through the month, after all. They were overdue a bit of extravagance. Rivva turned to him and grinned (a yes), and lifted up a bottle of HedgeWine - with a wink. His own grin spreading, Ian grabbed three, large Rutegga bulbs and placed them in the shopping satchel.

Even the shopkeep's smile spread a little wider than usual when they approached the counter. Ration day infused them with the magik they were all deprived of with the council sweeps that snatched up all of the witchborn. Rutegga stew, Lornbread, and Hedge Wine would go down nicely that evening. Harvest time was coming, and they had their fair share of work cut out for them.

Passing out of the shop with their purchases, Ian spun at the feel of a stampshot tagging him, tensing at the prospect of it. His eyes caught sight of several more of the omegas in the city being forced-tagged, and the need to check the color of his tag faded in the instant.

Ian... Lorre whispered, her words trailing into quiet.

Rivva gasped, catching sight of the tag later than the rest of them.

Face drawn, Ian feared looking to his family just then. His eldest sister, Rivva, especially. She'd want to offer herself, but they all knew the preferences of their keepers. The female shifters came last when the council draft tagged new prospects. Ian tried not to let his mind go straight to the worst of it. Maybe, he'd be overlooked for another omega. He'd evaded the tags before. He'd always hoped it was because he had a forgettable face. With any luck, he'd be right, and the council would pass right over him.
