Introduction
"It’s the questions that are the salt of life."
Benoit Groult
"Good question? Good answer!"
adapted from Olivier Locker
You have chosen to read this book. From that I can deduce without breaking a sweat that you have not yet found the secret of calm and that you are searching for it. Well, that’s a good thing, because it’s right here, and you are going to discover it. After that, it’s up to you to apply it to your life or not…
Change your mindset and change your reality
There are two ways to battle against stress:
1/ Eliminate stressful situations and circumstances from one’s life.
2/ Change one’s state of mind.
Let’s suppose for example that Bernadette is very afraid of pigeons. As soon as she sees one, she is seized with panic, breaks out in a sweat and takes off running, risking her life by crossing the street at the least favorable moment.
What can Bernadette do to live better?
1/ Move to a country where there are no pigeons;
2/ Work on her mental state to overcome this unreasonable fear.
In Bernadette’s case, the choice is evident: It’s the second option that is obviously the least costly and the wisest. But let’s take a more nuanced case. Gontran is a repo man. He’s the one who comes to take the goods of those who cannot pay their debt. People greet him like a skunk at a garden party, which is completely natural. As a consequence, Gontran stresses enormously.
Must he change occupations or should he turn a deaf ear to the insults thrown at him in the execution of his duties?
In other words, must he change his reality, or must he change his mentality?
The answer is: both.
Very often, the only way to change one’s reality is to first change one’s mentality. If, like Gontran, you have a stressful occupation and you decide to listen over and over to a recording of the 365 questions in this book, what will happen?
Well, I don’t know, of course.
But allow me to proceed as though I knew.
First Off: You are going to learn to keep calm in any circumstances.
Secondly: You are going to change occupations.
If you had a stressful occupation, it was because that occupation suited you to a certain degree. You had a stressful occupation because you were stressed, or you had a stressful occupation because you felt that you didn’t deserve any better…. In one way or another, there was a compatibility between the occupation and you. That’s why you chose it, or why it chose you. But now that you have a different mentality, a greater calm, your stressful occupation no longer fits you. It’s a jacket that’s too tight, pants that are too short: these clothes are cramping your style. So, as soon as you can, you get rid of it in favor of more comfortable attire.
A sweat suit, perhaps.
Or a roomy caftan.
In other words, the interior change prepares and authorizes the exterior change. Before modifying the circumstances of one’s existence, before changing occupation, spouse, region or country, one must first change oneself, that is to say change one’s mentality, one’s way of thinking.
And at times, that is enough.
If you are stressed without a reason, or if you become angry due to trivial matters, you just have to learn to think differently for all anguish and all anger to dissipate so you can enjoy a peaceful life at last.
Presentation of the method
This change of mentality, you can get it without too much effort by repeating regularly the 365 questions contained in this
