    LIFE LONG LOVES

    by

    Tracey Howard

    Copyright ©February 2017 Tracey Howard

Tracey is a stay at home wife and mother who has lived all over the United States. She is currently living in northern Indiana with her husband of nearly twenty years, their 15-year-old daughter and two hairballs of the canine variety. She is an avid reader with an insatiable appetite, surpassed only by her child, to whom she has passed on the reader trait. She is a self-taught amateur shutterbug and although she has been writing for the majority of her adult life, she only recently put both words and pictures out there for the world to see.

    So many loves

    have passed through

    my life.

    Some of them,

    short lived.

    A few

    blissful hours,

    lighthearted

    dalliances.

    Never really serious,

    but memorable,

    nonetheless.

    Some truly

    blazing brightly,

    shimmering like

    golden sunlight.

    But like the

    summer days,

    doomed to finish

    before they

    even really began.

    Always leaving

    lasting marks,

    on my heart,

    in my mind.

    Some were

    born of curiosity.

    A natural foray

    into, as of yet,

    unknown pleasures.

    Each with their own

    unique ending.

    Several were

    the culmination of

    years of longing.

    Their ultimate reality

    sometimes exceeding

    expectations.

    Alas,

    the mundane,

    were more

    prevalent.

    But the hunt

    was just as

    satisfying.

    Some of them

    were a surprise.

    An accidental meeting,

    leading to

    surprisingly

    satisfying exchanges.

    So many more,

    forgotten over time,

    merely fillers.

    Momentary lapses

    during days of

    loneliness,

    leading to regrets

    of wasted time.

    Still many more,

    the reward

    of diligent searching,

    and self-restraint.

    Holding back

    from meaningless

    dalliances,

    to find that

    near perfect

    experience,

    before the inevitable,

    bittersweet,

    goodbye.

    Still more

    that served a purpose.

    Taking care

    to teach

    practical lessons,

    in the most

    basic of terms.

    But the very best,

    the sweetest

    of all the sweets,

    were the lifelong

    friendships.

    Forged through

    overwhelming emotions,

    visceral in honesty,

    sensual in

    experiences,

    creating unbreakable bonds

    wrapped around

    mind and heart.

    Those never end.

    I am eternally

    grateful

    for each

    and every one

    passing through

    my fingers.

    I will never forget

    the way they felt

    in my hands.

    I can’t

    ever

    pick just one.

    They all are

    my favorite,

    at some point.

    Each one

    invaluable,

    no matter

    the personal cost

    to me.

    But sadly

    I am fickle.

    Insatiable.

    I will always

    continue to search

    for more.

    Needing that

    emotional thrill,

    that personal

    connection,

    that can only

    be found

    between the covers of

    a good book.
