    Daily reflections from the heart of the Books of Joel to Malachi. Recently, I published a book of Daily Reflections, 'Honest before God,' taken from the heart of the book of Psalms. That book charted my journey from the valley of the shadow into the light. Although totally able to stand up on its own, this short book of reflections has been designed to sit alongside that volume and compliment it. It is my prayer, that wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you will find comfort, hope and challenge through the radical honesty embedded in the heart of these Old Testament prophets.

    Philip Janvier was born in Liverpool in 1957 and studied Theology at Trinity College, Bristol. He is the author of the Amazon Best Selling, 'The Fin Butler Adventures.' He is an award-winning documentary videographer, has written both Christian and secular material. He is addicted to reading, loves children’s fantasy novels and Doctor Who. He is married and lives in Liverpool where he is the Team Rector of St Stephen’s, Gateacre.

      Daily reflections from the heart of the Books of Joel to Malachi

      JOEL 2:12-13 (NIV)

      ‘Even now,’ declares the LORD, ‘return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.’ Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.

      Joel chapter 2 begins with the threat of a mighty army about to overtake the people of God. It is frightening in its intensity, and its power and authority are absolute. It is a warning about what will happen to God’s people if they fail to repent and do justly and love mercy. In verse 12 we discover, that it is not too late for God’s people and there is still time for repentance. The people of God are told twice to repent, ‘return to me with all your heart,’ (Joel 2:12a NIV) and ‘Rend your hearts and not your garments.’ (Joel 2:13a NIV).
