    What is Zendoodle?

    The wider notion of Zendoodle has been around for a long time.  But the word and precise concept only dates from 2005.  It was created by calligrapher Maria Thomas and her partner Rick Roberts.  It describes the feelings of calm and well-being Maria experienced when drawing patterns.  Roberts saw that this was something close to what is experienced through meditation.  Working together they began to formalize a system that would help to bring out these positive feelings and that could be used as a guide to teach others how to also enjoy this experience.

    The system they developed is available through their website and provides some structures, advice and examples (examined later in this book) that serve as a guide for doing
