    Chapter 1

A beep-beep-beep could faintly be heard in the background. As it became louder, the person came to realize that she was now awake instead of sleeping.

She turned her head with open eyes and saw the alarm clock, as well as the man next to her.  She smiled, knowing that she’d have another great morning with him.

They both had gotten to bed early, both had played around a little and now it was time for both of them to get ready for work.

Morning hun, he greeted as he woke up.

Morning, she smiled back, pushing herself up onto her knees, kneeling in bed, the sheet that was on her back, falling off.  The man next to her, looked up at her bare figure.

How are you doing? he rubbed his hand on her thigh.

She bent down, propped on her hands and kissed him, doing fine now.  With that, she climbed out of bed and went to the shower.

The man smiled as he climbed out himself and followed the woman to the shower.  It had been a year since they had gotten together. They had dropped their guard with each other, sharing everything and keeping nothing a secret.

She wasn’t an ice queen anymore, knowing that he was there to help her, but she still could compartmentalize her emotions.

As they shared the shower, he played with her long raven black hair. It was now down to her hips and she made no mention or intention of cutting it.

Not a single word about work was muttered, as had been their agreement for their morning ritual; no work, just play and sharing mutual love.

Once their shower was finished and dressed, they grabbed a cup of coffee each in their go mugs before heading out the door.

Her usual attire for business mornings was her maroon jacket, dark blue or black jeans, a flat colored t-shirt, sneakers or boots and her sunglasses.  His attire was similar, but with a black leather jacket instead.

Their business was a two story building just outside the main skyscraper zone of the city.  It had a loading zone in the back for vehicles. They needed a ground level building, otherwise it would have been hard to roll out their employees when it came time for a job.  The first floor consisted of a barracks, meeting room and training area. The second level, accessible by stairs or elevator, were offices for the three partners in the firm and a few other offices for quiet, along with a small room for cots and changing.  Everything was state of the art, or as much as it could be.

As they walked up to their building, they saw their logo, M.S.R. Security with a shield behind it, half with plate or knight armor, the other half with ones and zeros to represent both physical and digital security.

Once inside, the two made their way up to the offices and sat down behind their respected desks in the main office, which was fairly large.  It was shared among the three partners in the company, them and Hailey. The partner’s friends, Harry and James and offices of their own.

Morning you two, Harry walked into the office, here is the list of jobs we have this week, he handed them each a copy of two pages. It contained client companies, the contacts, the type of job and the earnings for a successful report.

Thanks Harry, the woman replied and set about looking over the company’s finances.  It was a daily thing for her, to look them over as they paid their employees on a weekly basis.  James and Harry got paid per job.  However, the partners paid themselves whatever was left over after 25% went right into the bank.  Taxes and other stuffs were already taken out of this point.

They had been very profitable in the last year, each month more profitable than the last.  Since the extraction job last year and James’s contacts, their client base had exploded.  And with every successful mission, came new clients. They were pushing $600,000 for the last three months.

Call her greedy, but she wanted more. She wanted the profits in the seven digit range.

Heather, James walked, I just secured, or rather these were dropped into my lap. This client...has been eager to use us. From what I can understand and research, their current security company isn’t the greatest at what they do...

The woman looked up, Sure, I’ll take a look... she accepted the papers as James handed them to her.  At first glance, she shook her head, No, we’re not working for these people...

    Why not? James asked.

I recognize the contact information, he’s screwed us several times already and owes us $150,000. Until he pays his dues, we’re not getting out of bed for him, Heather answered.

Understood, James nodded and left.  He was going to double check then make a phone call.

Heather looked over and saw her boyfriend, Blake, talking to Harry, their encryption specialist.  Blake was a sever security specialist and Harry only made it better. They were both at the top of their fields and they got calls constantly, trying to be poached.

She turned her head as her alarm went off, indicating eight am. Time to get a move on, she got up, walked out and went down to the barracks to find that everyone was there, getting ready to do the listed jobs for the day.

Hailey was there with them. She was more soldier than computer, so she headed up the five soldier personnel there. Heather would have done the herself, but she needed to keep a look out for the business. That and for someone to get her in the field, required the premium services.

Over the course of the past year, Heather had become better than Hailey at combat and she had her other abilities.  Heather could decimate everyone in the company with ease.

Ms. Matthews, one of the employees greeted.

It’s Heather, you know that Jeremy. We don’t use hierarchy other than distinguishing the partners for introduction to new clientele, Heather shook her head smiling.

Jeremy had been raised strict and it presented itself in his mannerisms. He was polite, courteous and was always on time and had a 100% success rate in the company.

The others nodded their greeting as Hailey gave Heather a list of what they were doing that day. Four jobs, one required computer security.

Is he here yet? Heather asked.

They said he was here when they got here, Hailey said quietly. Heather nodded and heard someone coming down the stairs.

She turned and saw their newest and youngest computer analyst. He had been late a few times. Heather had to do a double take as she saw him in dress pants, shirt and a tie.

Doesn’t he usually wear jeans or shorts with a t-shirt? Heather asked with a brow raised.

Yep, I’m just as surprised as you are, Hailey nodded. They watched the young man walk up to the others
