About this ebook

150 Word Intro for Kyla & Aaron Story

The King Motor Inn is a well- known hub for seedy happenings. It is also the home of Aaron, a veteran with emotional trauma as severe as the physical. When Aaron returns home from a night of drinking and discovers Kyla, a beautiful young woman who has just attempted suicide, he lies about their relationship in a desperate play to save her life. When Kyla wakes up in a psychiatric hospital and discovers his lies, she writes him a letter asking for an explanation, forging an unlikely friendship between the pair that will change both their lives forever. Through a series of cynically sweet correspondences, the pair learn about each other- as well as themselves- and their eyes are opened to a new world of possibility and hope. Will they be able to save each other? Or will the cyclical tragedies of their lives intervene once again?

    Kyla Checks In

    The key was sticky.

That was all Kyla could think about as she left the lobby of the King Motor Inn. She’d paid her forty dollars promised not to leave beer cans in the parking lot. They told her to be out of room 23 by ten in the morning and handed her the key- the sticky key. The key that felt like it had been washed in cheap soda and hung up to dry. Couldn’t they have wiped it off first? She caught herself thinking. Then the first smile in months crawled across her face.

Why worry about a dirty key when you just checked in to die?

It wasn’t a decision she’d taken lightly, She’d put years into planning this night. She cashed out her savings that morning, bought every pill she could manage to score from the junkies outside the laundromat. She bought a money order with what was left and mailed it with a note to her Grandma Alice.

It’s not your fault, Grannie. I’m just impatient, it said. The note itself it’s a homage to Grandma Alice’s ever-optimistic personality. Every time anything bad happen to Kyla, Grandma had a ready statement of encouragement.

Mama didn’t leave because you’re bad, she left because she isn’t good enough for you. Just wait, Things will get better.

Daddy’s in jail because the Good Lord knows he’d poison you out here. Hold on, Better times are coming.

That boy isn’t the last man on Earth. You wait and see...

Depression had plagued Kyla since birth. As an infant, she rarely cried. Instead, everyone said she just sort of settled into her discomfort. When she got passed from relative to relative, she knew better than to bond with anybody- and they knew better than to bond with her. Her childhood was a series of court battles and family disputes, all for custody of
