About this ebook

WHO SHOULD READ THIS BOOK.

While the title of the book mentioned working on Oracle applications, the concepts and techniques covered can be applied on any application that is web based and requires good manual correlations skills. Many articles and classes taught about using Load Runner only covers the basics and geared towards a beginner. This book however, is written with the intention of adding more knowledge beyond the basics while allowing a beginner to read and understand what’s being discussed. A lot of irrelevant information is being omitted because I want to keep the focus on programming techniques for Vugen. Every example is being accompanied with pieces of code images from actual projects I have worked on. Some people like to write very lengthy books but I would prefer to keep this book concise and to the point. An Assumption is made that you already understand the C programming language and basic html, even though the code samples seen here doesn't require too much syntax understanding of any particular language. Only a description of where code needs to be modified in a Load Runner script is being illustrated.
The first 2 chapters covers things you need to understand before writing a Vugen Script. It encourages you not to rely on the tool itself to do all the work but the user himself has to be vigilant and observant. Understand how the script is being generated and where there may be critical information lacking with an explanation of how to fill in the gap. The effects of test data management and data file configuration is covered because even advanced users may run into trouble with multiple virtual users accessing the data and parsing it in a way that may negatively affect the outcome of their test. An entry level Load Runner course may speak from an operational point of view about the different sections of a virtual users script, but it wont tell you how information in these sections should be presented or in what manner they should flow according to the intended behavior of your virtual user session. This is especially important if you are developing scripts for both Load and Stress testing
