LA GRANGE y DU CROISY.
DU CROISY.- ¿Señor La Grange?
LA GRANGE.- ¿Qué?
DU CROISY.- Miradme un poco, sin reíros.
LA GRANGE.- ¿Y bien?
DU CROISY.- ¿Qué decís de nuestra visita? ¿Estáis muy satisfecho de ella?
LA GRANGE.- A vuestro juicio, ¿tenemos motivo para estarlo los dos?
DU CROISY.- No del todo, en verdad.
LA GRANGE.- En cuanto a mí, os confieso que me tiene completamente escandalizado. ¿Se ha visto nunca a dos bachilleras provincianas hacerse más desdeñosas que estas y a dos hombres tratados con más desprecio que nosotros? Apenas si han podido decidirse a ordenar que nos dieran unas sillas. No he visto jamás hablarse tanto al oído como hacen ellas, bostezar tanto, restregarse tanto los ojos y preguntar tantas veces: «¿Qué hora es?» No han contestado más que sí o no a todo cuanto hemos podido decirles. ¿Y no confesaréis, en fin, que aun cuando hubiéramos sido las últimas personas del mundo, no podía tratársenos peor de lo que lo han hecho?.
DU CROISY.- Paréceme que tomáis la cosa muy a pecho.
LA GRANGE.- La tomo, sin duda, y de tal suerte, que quiero vengarme de esta impertinencia. Sé lo que ha motivado ese desprecio. El estilo precioso no solo ha infestado París, sino que también se ha extendido por las provincias, y nuestras ridículas doncellas han absorbido su buena dosis. En una palabra: sus personas son una mezcolanza de preciosas y de coquetas. Ya veo lo que hay que ser para que le reciban a uno bien; y si me hacéis caso, les prepararemos una jugarreta que les hará ver su necedad y podrá enseñarles a conocer un
