About this ebook

One would think that killing a god and then fighting a monster from another world entitled one to a bit of a break.

One would be wrong.

Garnett wasn't happy to be in Boitumelo tracking down a rogue spell. Or dealing with another Ancient God.

And if Keanu didn't come back from wherever he'd flitted off to Garnett might just turn around and leave without the team.

If that was even possible.

Rising Sword of the Blue Flames

One would think that killing a god and then fighting a monster from another world entitled one to a bit of a break. One would, sadly, be quite wrong about that. Very wrong.

Apparently it was the exact opposite. Risk your life to work miracles and the entire world decided that you would be perfectly happy to continue right on risking your life for no true reward. Just praise. 'Glory'. And if ever there were a more meaningless term than 'glory' Garnett didn't know what it might be.

He glared at the sky where clouds had gone a shade of indigo blue that made them look as though they had taken flames. Blue flames. Never a good sight when dealing with magic. Somewhat better than white or red flames. That would be 'run away now' bad. But blue flames in clouds generally meant truly horrendous things happening in particularly untraceable ways.

He could feel the magic thrumming through the hundreds of tattoos shifting his body to its current form. The dragon tattoo at the base of his spine vibrated with warning. Distance, less than a mile off but no closer than a hundred yards, tingled through the vine tattoos that wrapped around his biceps and crept across his back. Various other tattoos tingled with their warnings of just what they were dealing with.

    He was dealing with.

The others were not mages and this, clearly, was a magic problem. Not a godly problem like Xun killing Dorji Kita or a monster problem like Akuchi's recent battle with the extra-dimensional moss monster. No, this was magic, pure and simple. Some fool had summoned up magic that they couldn't control. It had likely eaten the fool whole and now was growing by the hour until it threatened the entirely of Boitumelo.

Boitumelo was a large city. Large enough for hundreds of buildings made of sturdy mud bricks and fountains that burbled nonstop. Such as the fountain in front of them that perched at the very edge of the cliff with algae growing in the corners of the pool. Between the flaming clouds overhead and the smell of the algae below them, Garnett was quite prepared to turn around and walk straight back out of Boitumelo.

Not that he'd get far if he tried to walk away.

The city perched along a cliff, actually inside of a crevasse cut into the earth. Buildings had been carefully wedged into crevices
