    Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt is one of the most widely read French authors in the world. He was born in 1960 and now lives in Brussels. Before he became a writer, he successfully completely an agrégation (a highly selective competitive examination for teachers) in philosophy. He began his writing career in the theatre with Don Juan on Trial (1991), a variation on the myth of Don Juan, and The Visitor, a play in which Freud (Austrian neurologist, 1856-1939) is visited by an enigmatic man who claims to be God. While writing for the theatre, Schmitt also worked on books (The Alternative Hypothesis, 2001), short stories (The Most Beautiful Book in the World, 2006) and even an autobiographical novel (My Life with Mozart, 2005). He recently stepped behind the camera to adapt two of his books for cinema, one of which was Oscar and the Lady in Pink.
