About this ebook

An ordinary camping trip goes horribly wrong. Al and Jenny find themselves in the year 2055… and the future is grim.

The countryside is full of troops and army tanks.

But worse than that, there are no black people, no Asian people… Only white people are left.

Something dreadful has happened. Al and Jenny are stuck in a nightmare. Will they ever get out?

Race Against Time is a story about racism and intolerance in a future that might just come to pass…

Written, edited and designed for teen readers who love gripping stories with as few obstacles to reading as possible. Particularly suitable for dyslexic, struggling and reluctant readers with a reading age of 7 and over.

I pushed my bike along the front path. We were taking Amy’s tent and camping out on Branston Moor. A night alone with Amy, I thought.

Mum was hanging out some washing in the yard. And where do you think you’re going? she asked.

I sighed. I told you last night, mum. I’m off camping.

"With her? Mum didn’t like Amy. She didn’t like the clothes she wore, or the fact that sometimes Amy wore make-up. If you must go, I want you back first thing in the morning."

Okay, mum, I said. I glanced at Amy. She was looking the other way, pretending she hadn’t heard a thing.

My dad had died last year, and I missed him a lot. And mum missed him too. Sometimes I found her crying quietly to herself, holding dad’s picture in her hand.

I felt guilty about leaving her alone like that, but more than anything I wanted to go camping with Amy.

We cycled out of the city. Amy led the way up the hill to the rolling moorland.

    "Your mum doesn’t
