About this ebook

This book is not the usual kind of Ghost Story book. Because I am not a Ghost Hunter, I am not a paranormal investigator. I do not have the equipment or the knowledge to explain what people tell me they have seen or experienced. These stories are undocumented, as I would not know where to begin. These are their stories that I am now going to tell you.
It is because of these limitations that I prefer the title, Unusual Occurrence. There is another reason for the use of this title. The fore most reason is that almost all these stories involve dead people, or mysteries, and consist of hearsay information passed along by folks who do not want their names associated with the stories.
Because this is a book of hearsay, unlike all of my other books that are historical narratives based on research and cross checking of documented facts. These unusual occurrences normally have no documentation to prove their validity. Normally these occurrences are personal experience that is relayed from one person to another. I, like you, are an audience to these people and to be fair to them must accept at face value, without judging. One thing I can attest to is that the people who told me the stories that I relate here honestly believe their stories, and I ask you to honor these same parameters.
Thank You

    How my journey began

My introduction to the paranormal began in a strange way. My wife and I became Civil War re-enactors because she was interested in the time and the clothing. I portray a newspaper reporter of the period and as we became more involved, I wanted to do something to educate and entertain people attending re-enactor events. I started researching people and events of the period and started doing presentations at events, libraries, and assisted care facilities around the area.

I would e-mail my list of presentations to program directors. Then give a follow-up call to book presentations. Some were interested some were not, but I booked enough to have a nice sideline. I was doing my usual call through one day and was meeting with no success as many of the directors were saying that their patrons had no interest in history or the Civil War, just on a whim I said, Well I have a new one called ‘Ghost Stories of the Civil War.’ The librarian went silent for a moment and then asked, Is it available for October? As I called others on my list, I added the Ghost Stories presentation to the list and wound up with eight presentation dates for a presentation I did not even have prepared.

My research on the presentation was surprising with how many Ghost Stories there are around Civil War sites. Many were just what I would call local legend, as they have no documentation. However, a surprising number are documented involving famous people of the period. The documented ones are what I chose for my presentation.

As I gave my presentation, I sensed that the audience could not wait to contribute their own strange and unexplainable
