Growing Herbs at Home - Linda Gray
INTRODUCTION
Herbs have been cultivated for medicinal and culinary use for thousands of years.
All the herbs in ’Growing Herbs at Home" can be grown either in pots, containers or in your outdoor herb garden.
Giving pots of herbs as Christmas presents are thoughtful and inexpensive gifts. You’ll need a little space for your pots, but as long as they have light, not necessarily direct sunlight, you could spread them round the house or conservatory until Christmas.
And the added bonus of course is that you don’t actually have to wrap them. A festive gold or silver bow tied round a nice pot is wrapping enough!
Or choose a container that can go out on the patio as well as inside...
And you can guarantee the herbs will be appreciated by everyone. I’ve included a little history and uses for the herbs, in case you give them to friends who have absolutely no idea. Copy out the useful bits and make a small card to give as part of the gift.

The plant will tolerate very high temperatures as well as cold air temperatures, but will not cope with very cold soil. For this reason it shouldn’t be planted outside in an area where there is likely to be a ground frost.
Aloe Vera has been used in medicinal preparations for thousands of years, and the recent popularity it enjoys is well deserved.
The medicinal properties are held in the gel like fluid in the leaves of the plant. Because it contains twenty of the twenty two amino acids we need as humans, it is a very effective healing herb. The sap will soothe and help heal minor burns, which makes it a practical plant to grow on a kitchen windowsill!
One of the more interesting facts about aloe vera is that the
