My Experience With Social Anxiety
For most of my life, I was the shy kid.
I remember being fearful of social interactions ever since I was a small child. I couldn’t tell you why, perhaps it had something to do with me being an only child who was raised by a single mother. Anyways, I suffered with my social anxiety all the way up until my early 20’s. At 19 years old, when I was a freshman in college, it was worse than it had ever been. My roommate at the time decided to move into his own apartment for the second semester, leaving the room all to me. I was happy at first. I love my alone time. But without a familiar friend, I became more socially anxious than ever before. I was so scared to talk to people on my dormitory floor that I would only leave my room when absolutely necessary. I ate my meals alone. I studied alone. I did practically everything alone. During the first semester, I would drink alcohol about 3 nights a week just so I could relax and have a good time, however, it was having a major negative impact on my health so I decided to cut back. This made my social anxiety much worse, and I soon fell into a deep, dark depression that lasted many months. I’m writing this book to tell you how I overcame this immense personal struggle, with hopes that you can gain some insight into your own situation and perhaps follow a similar path for creating a better life.
To make a long story short, I did overcome my depression and social anxiety. Today I am happier than ever and have achieved some things that would have seemed impossible to the person I was just a few years ago. I’m still a normal person and I do experience some anxiety from time to time, but it is not anywhere near the level it once was. I am able to courageously overcome challenges and chase my dreams, and that is
