NAVIGATING DISAPPOINTMENT
Preface
If there is one piece of literary advice I have learned to embrace over the years it’s writing about what I’m already an expert in. I will admit to a few bouts of hard-headedness along the way. There was the weight-loss book I started on while morbidly obese. Also, there were a few fictional renderings. One was about a man who is a Green Bay Packers fan, which incidentally I am not. Another was a piece about a people from an obscure place and time.
I was raised in the 1980s in Ohio. While these works are not without their value, surely the person who gave me the advice (I cannot recall who they are) had to be turning in their figurative, or perhaps literal grave were they watching me from afar.
I am writing Navigating Disappointment because I am an expert in navigating disappointment, and I have absolutely no doubt that I am the right person to help you through the season you are facing. I have been on the brink of working dream-jobs, just to have mere formalities come in-between and destroy those opportunities. I have been months away from marrying women I would have died to protect, just to watch them do an about-face instantaneously, while literally snatching their children whom I was set to adopt right out of my arms forever. I have lived the triumph of being reunited with and reconciled to estranged loved ones, and days later received the disheartening news they were no longer living. I have climbed these mountains – all of them – more than once.
Since you are reading this book I can only assume you are experiencing a letdown yourself. Let me begin by saying I
