Bonsai for Beginners - Nancy Ross
Chapter 1: Introduction to the Bonsai
There are many different types of growing and gardening that you are able to work with, but the one that is considered a great art form is the bonsai. The ancient art form of bonsai comes from the Japanese and is basically the growing of small trees. You can choose to grow these miniature trees either in some pots indoors or grown outdoors. These trees are around completely to be a decorative piece, and there is a lot of care that is taken by their owners because they will take a lot of work to make the small trees perfect. There are a few different techniques that will be used in order to help keep the trees small rather than letting them grow as big as regular trees.
Bonsai growing is going to be so much different compared to some of the other types of gardening that you are used to doing. While most gardening books are going to talk about some of the best ways to grow fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other things that can be used as food and medicine, the bonsai tree is completely different. It is basically a tiny tree that you are able to grow inside of your home, one that you can keep inside of a pot and even prune to look a particular way. You don’t keep this tree in order to have food or medicine, it is used to help with the decoration of your home or to be given away as a gift.
The idea of the bonsai tree is fairly new in the Western world, but despite this, there quite a few varieties of this type of tree that actually do pretty well in the Western world. You can choose the type that seems the easiest to work with in your area or the one that has the look that you want to work with in your home. Most beginners are going to choose to just work with one or two of the bonsai trees because they do take some time to get used to and aren’t necessarily as easy as some of the other plants that you can choose. But once you get some experience with working on the bonsai tree, you are going to realize how much fun these trees can be, and you may decide to make this a permanent hobby to
