Finding Happiness in Simplicity: Everyday Joys for Simple Living
By Gail Fraser
()
About this ebook
Gail Fraser, the author of the Lumby series, and Art Poulin, international folk artist, share their tenets of purposeful living shaped from experiences on a farm and private enclave in upstate New York. Art's vivid illustrations accompany Gail's suggestions for simple and happy living. This is a small but powerful gem of a book about staying anchored in today's disarming times by returning the core basics for which we yearn, and the core values that will bring us long-term joy and well-being.
There is a beautiful ease and extraordinary uniqueness to the rhythm of everyday life. Finding Happiness in Simplicity opens a window into this world and provides a path to a more purpose-driven existence, one that is filled with all the things worth having--friends and neighbors, love and faith, curiosity and passion. Here we may discover that happiness is not born of overindulgence, and that more is not better than less, nor is fast better than slow.
Life often passes by in such a flurry that we seldom see the joys offered to us each day. But when we take the time to stroll along a country road, or plant a row of seeds, or listen to the morning song of crickets, our lives can become infinitely richer.
Spring's bare earth gives way to summer's abundance, and nature lavishes us with gifts at no cost. And as the leaves begin to fall and the days get cooler, it is time to honor friends and family with celebrations that revel in the smells, sights, and sounds of the season. When winter comes, we can anticipate the promise of joy and delight in the new year as we sit by the fire with our loved ones. It is that path of gentle living that will gracefully shape our lives and lead us to a more authentic happiness.
Combining the reassuring words of author Gail Fraser (author of the Lumby series) and the extraordinary art of internationally-acclaimed folk artist Art Poulin, Finding Happiness in Simplicity offers a deeply compelling message that we need only look at the smallest parts of happiness to bring us closer to a more fulfilling life.

Rave Reviews for the Lumby Novels
For lovers of Americana—a series featuring the old-fashioned country town of Lumby populated by relentlessly quirky residents who remind us just how crazy normal life usually is.
—Forbes
There's a quality to the writing that lends an unrushed, meandering feel to the narrative as evildoers are dispatched and equilibrium is restored. Fraser's story is pleasantly easy reading and as small-town cozy as they come. There are plenty of light chuckles to be found.
—Publishers Weekly
At a time when we seem to be taking ourselves all too seriously, Gail Fraser pulls a rabbit out of the hat that charms while it helps us relax. Lumby strikes just the right balance of playfulness, satire and drama. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
—Brother Christopher, Abbot, New Skete Monastery
You will be amazed by the great imagination of the author ... The reader is in for a treat. This book is a delight to read and one that you will thoroughly enjoy.

In the tradition of Jan Karon’s Mitford series, this engaging inside look at small-town life will draw a bevy of fans to its old-fashioned story combining a bit of romance, a bit of mystery and a multitude of quirky and endearing characters.
—Booklist
Lumby goes straight to the heart. The simplicity, humor and downright friendliness of the book make reading it a pleasure ... Readers will close this book with a sigh of contentment and a desire to visit Lumby again. The author has faithfully carved out a slice of small-town living and topped it off with a large helping of humor. This reviewer can’t wait for her next visit to Lumby!
—Christian Book Previews
This was by far one of the most delightful books I have read in a long time. A very well-written light fiction filled with great moments of reflection ... a great way to spend a relaxing, lazy summer afternoon swinging in a hammock. While simply composed, the writing flows like a dream, including witty and fast-paced dialog, resulting in a carefully woven tale that brings to life small town life and quirkiness.
—Seattle Pi
"Readers who have traveled to Mitford with Jan Karon will find the trip to Lumby at least as pleasant and marked with a lot more laughter. If the
