    INTRODUCTION

    I love that Christianity and our faith are based on this amazing reality that God interacts with us. All of Scripture is filled with these unbelievable stories, where everyday human beings are brought into the greatness of a real connection to God.

    I am especially inspired by the stories of God speaking to His people and how all of it plays out for His glory. I love watching what He can do in our lives through His beautiful interactions. Many of these expressive stories come through gifts of the Holy Spirit that unfortunately are often misunderstood and barely pursued today.

    I grew up in an environment of people who passionately pursued God and desired to hear Him. In our church, I saw the power of words of knowledge, especially through healing. Someone would hear God and identify a sickness or physical problem, and then we would all pray for healing. However, these moments were rare, even for our progressive church.

    At times, a few notable figures we all looked up to would bring an atmosphere of awe through their faith to connect with God’s voice. They would stand there, pounding out a row of revelatory words, as they spoke to various individuals in the crowd. Through divine revelation, they identified sicknesses and shared words based on names for people they had never met. The gifts and ministry of these men and women have always fascinated me. Throughout my life, I’ve pursued this gift of receiving these kinds of revelatory words for the people around me.

    As a child, I didn’t know the difference between a prophecy, a word of knowledge, an interpretation of tongues, or a word of wisdom—they all seemed just clumped together as those strange gifts that only a few people operated in and enjoyed. In fact, it seemed like most of the people who had a reputation in these areas were strange and a little socially awkward. Honestly, I almost got stuck in that mindset as I looked at the people who were representing these great gifts. But thankfully, Scripture always showed me something different. I remember reading stories from the Bible and thinking, But then there is Jesus who is our example, and His stories are so alive. And then I’d read the amazing stories I could relate to about people who heard from God—like Mary and Joseph, the apostle Paul, and Jesus’ disciples like Peter and John. If there wasn’t interaction, faith just felt so empty to me.

    So, I have pursued a life of communication with God. I wasn’t born with a gift, and I didn’t have a moment in my youth where an angel visited me as when Gabriel came to Mary. I just followed biblical examples, especially from Jesus, who gave us some of the greatest pictures of what words of knowledge from heaven could do.

    Prophecy is an awesome gift that God has shared with us to give us hints or direct messages about the future and our lives. Through faith, the messages we receive can help us position our lives for something God wants to do in and through us. Words of wisdom are so useful because they help you understand how to apply what God is saying or doing in you to speak or relate to the world around you. But words of knowledge are my favorite. I am a guy who loves quality time, and words of knowledge cause me to feel like the omnipresent God is choosing to be with me in that
