    Greetings and salutations!

I’m not sure if you’re new here or if you were one of the few who read my first Atheist book Outspoken: Confessions of a Devout Atheist, but either way I’d like to welcome you for being here regardless. Since I put a lot of time and thought into each book, I am thankful of anyone who takes a moment to read it, and that effort deserves this writer’s most heartfelt thanks. While my first Atheist book wasn’t exactly a bestseller, here I am again writing another book for the only reason to do so: I have much more to say and express as an Atheist looking out at this messed up world. A world poisoned by countless groups of religious bigots who can’t get along or make compromises for the betterment of our species. As long as that problem continues to exist, and as long as I continue to exist as well, there will always be something for me to write about as I peacefully protest the disingenuous words and gross misconduct of organized religions around world.

To get to the guts of my point, I shall paraphrase the late but not forgotten Christopher Hitchens:

That’s a profound statement (Hitchens, 1982), one of many lines from Hitchens brilliance that I’ll likely quote during the course of this book. This killer quote has a much greater chance of being true than the promises and stories that the faithful claim to be gospels. The odds of just one religion being true out of the thousands of different creeds out there, the odds are not in your favour. One reason for this claim is that the majority, if not all religions, happen to disqualifies the rest of them. Almost every organized religion claims to be the one and one true word of God, which means the rest of the religions around the world are not. Various Holy Scriptures also take the time to label the rest of the world as infidels, the enemy and/or sinners. If you read any of these alleged gospels, you’ll learn that each one leaves little or no room for compromise: it’s either us or them. So please pick a side, and do it while we’re young. Like many atheists around the world, I decided to go with an option many are not aware exists: none of the above.

Contrary to what you might have been told, that is an option and if that choice isn’t available in your nation, it should be. Forcing someone to follow your creed is wrong, and nothing short of oppression. People should be free to choose whatever creed they wish to follow, or in my case not follow. You see, without freedom the choice to follow or not follow religion is cheapened. Your choice has more value, and represents greater commitment if we have the power to pick from many options. If you live in a nation where only one religion is allowed and it’s rammed down your throat, it’s not the same. You’re either following the crowd, or you’re doing it to appease a religious authority who is telling you to follow it. If you have more choices, other religions to choose from, that adds value to your choice because you still made this decision regardless of what competition was available.

This is why I do not support the outright ban of organized religion. First of all it’s impossible to ban a creed; all you have to do is look over at China to see how well that’s going (hint; it’s not). Outlawing an idea is just as bad as waging a war on one (ie drugs or terror), and when it’s all said and done tons of money will be spent trying to fight an idea that can never be fully extinguished. To me all of that is just a waste of time, and getting back to the top at hand, removing those choices lessens the value of our choice.

If we were to outlaw religion tomorrow, that cheapens my choice not to follow them. The same can be said for nations that outlaw atheism or apostasy, because if your followers have that choice available to them and still choose religion, that choice has more meaning if they had the chance and/or opportunity to walk away. So outlawing atheism cheapens someone’s decision to become spiritual as well. Freedom doesn’t hurt your cause but gives it more value and prevents governments from banning it in the first place. That’s what amuses me when I see someone religious complaining about someone expressing an opinion that offends them, because the very freedom of speech that allows the person to make the offending statement is the same freedom that prevents people or institutions from oppressing or even banning their creed from being practiced at all. Watching someone religious bash someone else for expressing their right to expression is like watching an angry dog biting the very hand that feeds them. It’s hypocrisy on an epic scale, but as you’ll learn the more you watch that happens to be the specialty of those who are devoutly religious.

So when we get right to the bottom of this, I’m one Atheist who is not in favor or banning any religions. To me, banning them would only cause more problems and in the long run make us all hypocrites since we also don’t like having our ideals rammed down our throats. Yet at the same time, we cannot have people ramming religion down our legislature’s throat either. You’re free to believe in your god or gods, but you can’t tell people what laws we should have based on your unproven, spiritual myths. There are far too many religions out there that would make appeasing them all an impossible task for any government to achieve. It’s just not possible, but since picking favorites isn’t fair either the only solution is obvious. A secular government that is neutral to the issue or organized religion. The best way for a government to be respectful of all religions is to treat them all equally and not show any of them special favors. This also means equal treatment for people like myself who refuse to follow any religion at all. A government that treats all believes and non-believers equally would be ideal for brighter future.

Yet this isn’t what people of faith want. They want a government that appeases their beliefs and re-enforces them by law, like a legal pat on the back for being right despite no evidence to prove they even are. Some religions go even further than that, calling for people that commit what their faith deems sinful acts such as homosexuality, apostasy or even being an atheist, should be put to death. You’re not reading that wrong; there are actual religions out there that think I should be put to death just for being an atheist. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to respect someone’s belief if that said belief is that I should be six feet deep. Call me crazy, but if your religion doesn’t respect my right to exist, then there’s no way I’m ever going to show an ounce of respect for your faith and its crazy ass rules.

The really, really insane part about all this is that these religious people want to execute us themselves. Like condemning us to hell wasn’t bad enough, they want to put Atheists, Apostates and Homosexuals in the fast lane to get to hell as soon as possible. All this tells me is that many of these people never bothered to read their alleged holy books because most of them have quotes where God specifically tells their followers not to take the law into their own hands. Vengeance will be mine is a quote that I’m paraphrasing of course but the message couldn’t be clearer: mind your own fucking business, I’ve got this. Yet the so called faithful don’t appear to have enough faith, or patience, to wait for the Lord take care of the heathens.

This is a common theme you’re going to see throughout this new book. Examples of God making specific instructions in his alleged holy books and the people who claim to follow it just flat out ignore it for their own personal reasons. They are the worst cherry pickers when it comes to taking pieces of the bible to suit their needs, and then discarding the rest that conflict with their preferred way of life. The last time I checked Holy Scripture wasn’t a buffet; you either accept all of it as the word of god or dismiss it as manmade fiction that no one should follow.

But I digress; there is plenty of time to get into a lot of this
